My progression in DVD ripping started with DVDXcopyPlatinum, then DVDecrypter, and finally Ripit4me. Now that Ripit4me is having issues with some new titles(The Dark Night, Wall-E), I've been doing my reading and DVDFab seems to be the new "thing".

Since ripit4me did almost everything for me(although I'm technical savvy if given the time) I'm kinda lost now that I'm on to DVDFab. I always wondered what was meant when ripit4me was doing .vob cleanup and other jargon it would show during the process

I like to use DVDShrink for most films not worthy of a DVD9 backup. I'm used to it reading the vob files and (after some customizing, like menu sizes, removing unneeded audio languages, etc)then just creating a .iso file which I can burn with DVDecrytper or Imgburn.

But now that I'm using DVDfab, and I hear about people using "vobblanker" I'm kinda lost as to what steps are needed between the DVDfab rip, and the DVDShrink process. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to DVD authoring with such things as VOB's and Video_TS's.

Could someone please help me get set up for the right steps?

Thanks

Sorry, FixVTS is another step/program I'm confused about what it does and when it's actually needed.

So far it seems FixVTS and VobBlanker are needed between DVDFab rip and the DVDShrink process.

Again, are both the programs needed between those two steps?

Sometimes DVDFab does not provide the "cleanest" rips of your movies. When this occurs programs such as DVD Shrink can have problems reading the resulting files which results in errors in your process. To get thru this a program such as FixVTS or VobBlanker is needed to clean those files up. For just average use FixVTS takes care of this and is the easiest of the two to use. One of the most used processes by regulars is:
1. Rip to HDD using DVDFab
2. Clean with FixVTS
3. Shrink to DVD 5 size using DVD Shrink
4. Burn the resulting files or ISO image using ImgBurn

Access to lots more info in both of the links in my signature or in the guides section here at aD. Feel free to post back with any more questions. Good Luck.

No, they are not. Sometimes the decrypter cannot comletely clean the files and some might have structure errors, so you'd use Fixvts. the process is extremely simple, one or two clicks.

VobBlanker you can use it if you want to remove FBI warnings, extras and stuff, otherwise, you can skip the step. VobBlanker can be a bit intimidating, but after you use it once successfully, it seems easy. If you backup movie only, you definitely don't have to worry about VobBlanker. here you can see the steps required for FixVts.

Ok thanks for the info...so just to confirm, if I make it to the DVDShrink step, and can do a deep analysis without any errors, then I should be ok?

In other words, how do I know if DVDShrink is having problems, or I have errors? Hopefully I can find this out before having to watch my backup?

Also is it safe then to use FixVTS everytime, and it will help when it needs to, and do nothing if it's not needed? Or Should I use it only when I have errors?

Since it is such an easy and quick process, I'd use it with every backup. it will not hurt and will not take too much of your time either.

Ok so just load all the video and audio vbo's in, click "clean" and then load into DVDShrink?

What's the "Full DVD" button for?

the "Full DVD" is to clean the entire DVD and not just one VOB.

So I did "Full DVD" and now my computer is reporting only 3.5mb of space available! I had over 22gigs before!! This is the same problem that I ran into trying to rip this dvd (Wall-E) with Ripit4me.

Maybe I should have not have ran the FixVTS??

I now have a "FixVTSBackup" folder in my DVDFab movie directory. Which folder do I open with DVDShrink?

Can I undo the FixVTS since I didn't seem to have any issues before?

Endo showed me the following :

Install Anydvd
Set dvd decrypter to not remove structure protection
Set dvd decrypter to enable ElbyCDIO, instead of SPTI

Then Run Anydvd Iin the background)
Run ripit4me (use ripitit4me as before)

Jo
