It's possible your lens are dead or your motor is dead. Test by using multiple disc, including PS2 CD's & DVD's. Also try a movie DVD or Audio CD. If it spins and disc are not being read, I'm definite for lens is dead. If the disc does not spin at all, your motor is dead. If Audio CD reads and PS2 (CD & DVD) games don't, or PS2 CD reads whereas PS2 DVD don't read, and vice-versa, then your laser needs readjustment.

It depends upon which version PS2 you have.
The older FAT PS2 laser are more expensive to replace than the slim PS2.
It is easy to replace the laser though in either model.

Yes cleaning the laser can help a lot.
http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/laserPS2.htm
Just don't do the adjusting pots thing on that page.
Just try to clean the laser first, see what happens.
Then you can try adjusting the cog thing, but make sure to mark it with a marker first, so you know where it was originally in case you change the laser etc.
And you can try adjusting the angle if none of that works.
I picked up my lasers for the FAT for around $45 I think.
Is this Original PS2 disks you are trying. Seems strange now that I read your first post correctly.
Your saying that you insert disk and it just takes you back to browser, no "disc read error" or "please Insert a PS2 format disk"

Ok so that is a problem then with laser trying to read the disc.
No water is not good, do you have vinegar even. Just make sure the q-tip is not dripping wet, but wet enough to clean.
Then use a dry q-tip to dry it.

Well water is better than nothing. Do you have any windex then. It just can't be an abrasive cleaner.
It is just that water has no cleaning ingredient in it, so may not do a good job.

I have purchased mine from www.estartus.com
Make sure you know your Version number of your PS2 FAT.
These are Original PS2 DVD games you are saying that won't work in your PS2, as you have never said.
I ask because some people seem to think they can burn a backup and play in the PS2 without a modchip or some sort of software.
