Buying a New Computer

I am going to buy a new computer and I think I found a good one for gaming. I am buying a Dell XPS 435MT. Can you please look at the product details and see if this is a good computer for gaming? The only thing I regret about this computer is that the operating system is a 64-bit. Is 64-bit still compatible with games? The link to the computer is below. Thanks

It's a good deal. You might be able to build something a bit cheaper but I haven't attepmted to price match anything with the new i7 processors. The only think you may not like is Vista, not the 64 bit version of it. From what I've heard and seen, 64bit Vista only has problems with Nvidia video cards, yours is an ATI. If you truly need you can install XP or any 32bit OS on the computer.
Overall the hardware is good but you might be limited to upgradability in the far future.

You would be limited from the power supply and expansion slots on the motherboard. Those are both proprietary on a Dell computer. It's a good computer though, you wouldn't need to upgrade for a while unless you want the latest updates as soon as they come out.

Thanks. The only thing I really see me upgrading in the future is the Graphics Card, and that will be in a long time. Where was the information on the power supply, I do not see it anywhere on that page? Thanks for the advice.

For someone looking to spend a decent amount of money on a gaming rig I would seriously recommend building your own. While Dell is good for the average facebook'n'email user, they can be a poor chose for those with a little bit of computer knowledge. I can't find specs on the power supply but I have seen 360W pop up which is cutting it pretty close if you ever wanted to upgrade the video card. Not to mention Dell uses different sizes of PSU's so you won't be able to upgrade that either. Another problem is Dell computer's won't let you overclock your CPU. Having a nice new i7 is great, but unless you OC it you're not going to be getting your money's worth.
It's not difficult but if you don't mind doing a few minutes of reading, putting your own computer together will get you something more powerful and cheaper. We are also here to help.

Thanks for the advice, but my parents are spending their money to buy me this. They do not trust me in building my own computer, especially when it costs a lot of money. Any last comments before I make my purchase?

That's a solid PC for the price. While you may be able to get a better deal from a self-build, Dells are the only systems that ever really match the quality of a self-build, and that one's very reasonably priced. ATI cards work fine in 64-bit Vista.
