Hello, I am writing because I am having trouble burning DVD+R DL with my LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4120B

drive that came with my Gateway PC. I have flashed it to v A104AUTO (I have also tried N0AD, 111, and 102)

and I still cannot burn a single disc. Ripping data is not an issue ( I have tried WALL E and Indiana Jones 4)

as the video and menus will run flawlessly from the HDD, but when I try to burn the media to disc I get various

errors depending on the burning software used. I would love to be able to bitset to DVD-rom, click burn, and

have my movie all backed up and ready to go. So far Bitsetting is a bust and I cant even get a DVD+R book

type DVD9 to burn at all. I have read on several forums that this drive can bitset with firmwares A104 and

higher, however my version of Nero, ImgBurn, DVDInfo Pro, and the Bitsetting patcher I downloaded all say

that the drive cannot bitset. I am using Nero 6.6.0.8 ( I would like to try 6.3.1.25 as I believe that is the version

that has been tested with bitsetting; however, finding an older copy of nero is harder than I thought) DVDFAB

5, ImgBurn 2.4.1.0, andAlcohol 120% 1.9.2.

My PC is maxed out at 2GB RAM and 3ghz P4 w/ HT and I am using Memorex DVD+R DL 8x media. I know the

media isnt the greatest but I have tried several discs and my PC burns single layer memorex DVDs with no

problems at all.

I have tried using the clone option (.iso) and full disc option (VIDEO_TS) of DVDFab and neither produce

anything my drive will burn.

When I try using ImgBurn it asks me to Select a Layer Break Position: I get 1 option, LBA: 1924016 VTS_03 @

50/50% ... the drive then sounds like its going to burn but is hesitant, In the meanwhile ImgBurn states that it

is setting L0 Data Zone Capacity... about a minute later I get the message, "Failed to set L0 Data Zone

Capacity!" Reason: Write Error. I have also seen a message where it tells me a cell has to be split and that

technically "It's the end of the world" or something like that.

Here is a log of the two movies I tried to burn:

(If any other info is needed from me please let me know, as I would like to get to the bottom of this)

If it was me I would chuck the drive (it's 4 years old) and move on. It probably doesn't have a write strategy for the newer discs you are using even with a FW update. Not worth the trouble. New drives are cheap.

I like Pioneer.
