I originally bought my first R4 card from the guys on BritDS and raved reviews about them on AfterDawn (and subsequently bought several more in time for Christmas!) but found out just before Christmas, after I placed my orders phew, that they're shut!

Now, I sent them an email and got two really interesting bits of info from them, which I thought I'd share here.

1. I think for some reason, management there didn't want the risk of R4 cards being made illegal halfway through 2009, so they wanted to stop the website, but the guy that was always on the end of my emails, John I think, got a contact to set up the old http://www.NDS-Gear.co.uk site that existed before BritDS, and they're back up!

2. Some very interesting information confirming that the R4 cards are indeed legal; this is the link they posted to me:

http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/...icle4484224.ece

In particular, this quote:

The problem is that the device itself is not illegal. ?It?s the purposes that people use it for that?s often illegal,? says Rob Saunders, a spokesman for Nintendo UK.

So, if you use your cards to only backup games you legally own, they are indeed perfectly legal to own, and that's a quote from a Nintendo guy speaking to The Times!

Homebrew (and the concept of customer service on the 'net) isn't dead - hurray!

I also notice NDS-Gear put up a Legal page on the right hand side explaining exactly what's legal and isn't with a card, which is kind of useful.

Hey,

nds-gear looks suspiciously like another site that recently closed britds something or other. the same londongamer posted stuff about them also, are you one and the same? If so its not really on is it? Forums like this are supposed to be independant from companies like yours otherwise where would people go for impartial advice and discussions? You make forums like this a complete waste of time. So please stop and allow the public to post honest opinions and advice.
