Please, say has anybody tride to convert DVD9 to DVD5? What software did you use and how exactly did you convert the movie and correct the menu-files? What DVD-Burner is the best one? I am going to buy Pioneer DVR-A03. Is quality of copys much worse then of originals? Is a DVD-Copy codefree after the burning? Please answer who knoe it. I could not find such information enywhere.

As poodull said, if you wander into a forum that has 26,000 messages and has topics like 'DVD-R for newbies' with several thousand posts, you can kinda easily assume that the very basic questions have been answered _way_ too many times already.

The button 'Search messages' is not in the top menu just for fun.

Ya, OK... Sorry! Maybe the quastion was a little bit stupid. I have already seen many kinds of converting DVD9 to DVD5, but they all are very different. Some people do it with SmartRipper, Rempeg2, IfoEdit.. the other with ChapterXtractor, Cinema Craft Encoder, Clad DVD,IFOUpdate, Maestro DVD... I wondered what kind is the best one. After I have read the instruction about DVD-Ripping I dont understand if the Copy-DVD is exsactly like the original or has the copy a selfmade menu. I have also read Pioneer DVR-A03 makes many errors during the burning, therfor I asked what do you mean about this DVD-Burner. In fact I realy didnt want to worry you.

cry! go ahead and CRY!

i guess maybe we came down on your dumb little post a little to harshly.

if your question is what is the most common/affective way to rip a dvd9, well, thats like asking windows or linux. in that i mean that the obviously correct answer is windows and insinuating anything else is complete nonsense.

having said that, this is what i do: look to see if the total of the movie is about 5.9Gb or less and/or contains many extra crap you dont want. if so, you can rip it down to dvd5 without re-encoding*. *'re-encoding' is dvd ripping subculture lingo for: i dont have a job and therefore cannot afford the actual disk, but actually do have the time to figure out how to re-encode this $19 dvd. if you believe your time is worth $1 an hour, you'll save LOTS by not re-encoding.

after i do all that self-worth analysis and if i still believe i can rip the 9 to a 5 and not hate myself for letting the grass grow too long and not washing my filthy car, then i use this method:

rip out the major movie vob and ifos, VIDEO_TS and VTS_01_0 files. i use smartripper.
use ifoedit to open the main movie ifo.
use vob edit button to rip out language streams, build a new VIDEO_TS etc. etc., and correct vbu pointers.. whatever they are. (make sure your output is in another directory)
click okay
go make pb&j or slamdance with a fiver n sausuage...
then you have a directory with the main movie and all the correct video crap to make it work.
rename the new directory to VIDEO_TS and throw it into prassi.
lather rinse repeat

my end result is a movie without a menu and extra crapola that youll never watch twice. others enjoy splitting discs, but until they release a dvd player like my laserdisc with an auto flip function, i'll stick with my way.
