A couple of years ago I had Swap Magic for my PS2. Than I got a Modchip installed, and sometime during all those years I haven't been playing the PS2 (xbox 360 lol). Now my PS2 disc tray gets jammed all the time (from taking out the cover of the disc tray, the plastic part, for swap magic). This is not the first time tray jamming has happened. It happened before but changing the position of the PS2 solved that. Now it's not opening at all :(

Can anyone help me with a permanent solution for the disc tray jamming?

You may just need to realign your disk tray.

You will have to take it apart to check it.

There is a guide here
http://www.exploitstation.com/index.php?page=ps2repair

Just scroll down to "problematic drive tray"

Or you can download the PS2 trouble guide. Its an .exe file
Then go to "CD tray Alignment" once its executed.

Uh Oh, what is it. The DVD Drive Snake motor, Spindle hub motor, or Eject motor.
RichsPSXparts has these for decent prices if you know what you need.

http://www.richspsxparts.com/psx2.html

Or as I did a long time ago was picked up some broken PS2 on Ebay for really cheap one time. They only had disc read errors.
Was cheaper than buying parts separately.

No, I'm just really damn lazy. Freaking opening my PS2. I'm afraid I'll screw it up for good. :( Hopefully the problem fixes itself... I've had this PS2 for 8 years :'(

Yeah thats why I never recommend the slider tool to anyone.

I tell them to get a fliptop. Much better.

Well glad she got it open.

Yes you can have a fliptop on FAT PS2. I have done both my V7.

It looks like this

They arent too expensive, cost about $12.00 plus shipping.

My mom is ****ing ******** ******

You see the other coaster thread by me? My mom tried to open the PS2, but it wouldn't open, as described in this thread. All I needed was to change the position of the PS2. Now, she tried to pull the disc tray by force, and now the disc tray is stuck out there, and I can't put it in.

face_palm

oh lord... that's not good

I saw your other thread and don't know why Sonic Unleashed won't work, especially if all your other discs play fine.

The only thing I can suggest is take out the memory card and try it.
Probably won't make a difference.

You may have to take the PS2 apart if you can't wiggle the tray back in.
The most important thing to watch once the screws are taken out, and you remove the top is the reset cable.
You are then able to see the tray, undo the tiny screws and place it back in.

Alright, update.

Me and my dad opened the PS2. We found out why it isn't working. The thing that spins the disc in the middle (raises it or something) was blocking the tray from moving in and out. There was also this piece of plastic at the bottom of the tray that was broke. After some moving around, we got it to work. Now it goes in and out fine, in horizontal position. We than tried to clean the lens and crap like that. So after we put everything back, I hooked it up to my TV, only to find out...

The PS2 can't read any discs. I put discs in, nada. Just nada. My friends say this is bad Karma, from downloading games. Freakin Kingdom Hearts 2 and Slider Tool got me into this mess.

There must be someone in California who knows what to do! The David guy from TeamModders installed my Modchip, but now TeamModders is shut down, and David is probably behind bars.

WHAT DO I DO!? IS THIS REALLY THE END OF MY PS2!?

Ok you didn't ajust that white cog wheel at the back of the tray did you.
The one like in this guide.

If not, then you say you have a Crystal Modchip installed.

You could do a recovery to see if that is the issue.
Do you have the "boot manager" installed on your PS2 for this chip

http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=crystal.html

More info on the Crystal chip here. They may be able to help.

I never thought this might be a boot manager issue since this looks more like a hardawre problem rather than software. Something weird is happening, the disc tray takes longer to eject. When I turn the PS2 on, the eject button is supposed to be blue, but instead it's black for a few moments than I can eject it. Pretty weird.

Do you need any more details?

Your probably right that it is hardware.

You may want to check that you didn't put a screw through the reset cable when you put the lid back on.

As far as I know they are reliable, they have been around a very long time and are still going.
You can ask in a new post what others think.
