It used to run just fine (according to the user I'm helping) but now this error pops up when the DVD blank is inserted as part of the DVD Copy process on the laptop since there is just the one drive.

"There was an error writing the image to you hard drive.. Please make sure you have 2.1 GB free on any of your hard drives, then try the copy again."

Apparently the systems thinks that there isn't enough free space on the hard drive to write the image to the DVD. 2.1 GB just happens to be the size of the image created from the DVD he's trying to copy. But there's plenty of space and even clearing the 'temp' folder didn't help.

Uninstalling and re-installing didn't help either. Anyone know what this means?

I haven't use the program but the error seems pretty straight forward - for some reason the program can not find enuf space on the hard drive to write the file.

Is the drive partitioned maybe and the one selected in the program is the one w/ less space? Shot in the dark maybe. Check the drive the program is set to save to.

See if there are any updates for the program - could be a bug maybe.

What are you trying to do - maybe there are other programs we can offer that we do the same thing.

Basically it's just a version of Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator (now owned by Sonic) but bundled with Dell systems. There was nothing on Roxio's Forum either. The laptop has a single DVD burner and with a single drive it's supposed to copy the data to an image file then prompt you to put in the blank disk and write the image to the blank.

According to the owner it used to work but now displays this error. I uninstalled it and reinstalled but that made no difference. I can look at the settings to see where it's trying to write the image. With the default settings and a single optical drive, the copied files (from the source DVD) are written to the users 'temp' folder under Documents and Settings. The hard drive has a singe partition with plenty of free space. Probably 40+ GB of space. So I don't know why an error implying there isn't enough is occuring.

Yes I would check the settings and see where it's writing the files to.
Maybe change where the files are saved to as a test like maybe save to the desktop.
I'd also check Dell's site and see if they have an update for it by chance.

If you are just doing a simple copy of one disc to another with no copy protection involved - use ImgBurn. It's free.
Just have ImgBurn read then write the file(s)/folder to the disc.

edit: oops forget the link to ImgBurn guides - link

Personally I use ImgBurn but we're talking about a user who wants things to be extremely easy like the 'one click' features that are offered with Roxio. That way he doesn't have to think about anything. Even though these are not copy protected DVDs that require the use of DVD Decrypter, with ImgBurn you either copy the files/folders to another location or write an image to a location then have the software write the files or image back to a blank. A 'one click' feature does all this so he doesn't have to browse the drive looking for what he needs to write to the blank.

The odd things is that he has the same program running on a desktop with a single DVD writer and it works. As far as I know, it's configured the same way. He needs the laptop to do this because he travels a lot with it.
