My swap magic 3.6 dvd doesn't go to the screen where it says "Load Program" and "Format" after I put it in and after the Playstaion 2 logo pops up it will go right back to the browser. I have a fat ps2 with the model of 50001. The CD will go to the screen with "Load Program" and "Format" but the DVD won't. I tried putting in a DVD game (Guitar Hero World Tour) and it loaded the game (which isn't a backup or anything) so I don't think it is the laser because the laser still boots non-backup games easily. Can anyone help me out, I've had this problem before but I just reset the PS2 and the Swap magic game worked. Now I've reset and turned it off and tried booting it over 50 times and it always goes straight to the PS2 broswer screen. Please help me.
Just because it plays originals doesn't mean it's capable of reading the swap magic discs or backups. If you look at the bottom of the swap magic discs, you'll see that it's very different and slightly more difficult to read. Backups, sometimes, are also harder to read. My brand new silver ps2 had no problems, then after a few months it had trouble reading the swap magic CD version. Bad media or using a crappy burner can effect disc quality, forcing the laser to work harder to read the disc, lowering the life span of the laser.
If you're sure it's not your laser, you can use the swap magic cd to install free mc boot on to your memory card. Then you can use ESR.ELF to play patched ps2 games (patched for ESR compatibility) or you can use cogswap.
By the way, something you can try with your swap magic dvd. When you put it in, have it pointing in a particular direction. Keep rotating it slightly and retrying it until you've made a complete circle. With my swap magic cd, I can only get it to boot if I align the disc about 20 degrees off center (or rather, I have to put it in with the label being aligned a fraction of a turn to the left)
