Hey Guys,

I have been using dvdshrink and imgburn for years to back up dvds.
i have a lite-on dvd SHW-1635SX External writer. Within the last two weeks everything has stopped working. I have had errors on about 8 dvds. I get something that looks like the following:

I/O Error
scsi error
Then a bunch of #s
Uncorrectable error: CHECK CONDITION.
Can someone help me please?

I forgot to add that I am using Verbatim DVD+Rs. I think I may have got them around the same time this began. If a disc has 16x on it, is that the maximum? Or the speed you MUST use?

Make sure your firmware is up to date - you can find you model here - link

16x is the maximum rate the disc should be burned at - not mandatory that is burned at that speed. Burn at 8x instead.

Do a test burn w/ imgburn and post the log. (Press L when you open ImgBurn to create the log).
You might have a bad batch of Verbs too.

Thanks, man.

I will do a test burn. I updated firmware after this error started happening, but I may double check it. I will pick up some Sony DVD+R and test those. I got the Verbatims on a really good sale, but I usually dont use them.

Not a problem - keep us posted.

edit: may not make a diff but if you haven't already try hooking this drive up to another usb port.
