Sup fellas, and gals. Back in the day 1990s used to DJ out of highschool, since the last 8 years I got piles of Cd's and download itunes like a mad man.
What I want to know is, can I make my own custome mixes (with loops and mixes, and blend in songs) on my pc?
if so DO i need CD players or dj cd players? or just a software to handle the cd or song off the pc?
Im hoping to do it with cd;s & itunes songs. Its been so long that I mixed but Id like to make my own cd's for the kickbakcs I go to or throw in my pad. Thnx!
Are you happy with the quality of the music you ripped with itunes? It is normal not to be very discriminating when you start out. Some persons never get discriminating. The 2 areas that might annoy you later is poorly tagged tunes and low audio quality.
Itunes is great for tag info but can be light with audio quality. Audio quality is measured by bit rates. The default for itunes is 128. Even persons who use hearing aids can tell a 128 bit tune from a 160 bit tune. It take a good and trained ear to tell the difference between 160 and 190. After that it is probably over kill unless you plan to edit them like you do. If you plan to edit the tunes and keep them HiFi I would suggest 320.
Most DJs do not use CD players anymore. They use Jukbox apps run on lap tops. I have also seen some toting an additional 120 g ipod for extra disk space. They hold almost 2,000 albums. Some also keep a itunes is a very low end juke box app. Better ones allow you to program in fading and/or set the gap time between tunes.
If you are planning to buy a CD player make sure it is an mp3 CD player. You can fit about 10 hr long CDs on to one mp3 CD if the mp3s are only 128 BR.
320 bit, yikes, I remember back in the day Kazza was like 98 128 or so. But I am happy with Itunes. Once the speakers blasting theres not much differance , this is just for my back yard or cruising in my car. Nothing for a club or anything like that. (Sadly those days r over) So I take it I only need music programs and no cd mixers.
128 is plenty good for dance music. HD radio is only 90 BR. It is nice to discuss with a practical person. However in 1995 $100 bought you a few hundred megabytes of disk space. I remember reading an article claiming a gig disk would come out that year and I could not believe it. I saw 1.2 G drives being sold in Nov and wondered what you would do with all that space. That was in the time frame of 1998-2003 because I remember reading it at work. Now that can get you 1.5 tera bytes for $100.
CDs are about 1250 BR. The theoretical limit of human hearing is 320 and the practical limit is about 190. It is common practice to rip then archive CDs to hopefully never use then again. You only play burned CDs or listen to mp3s. Most persons over kill with quality because it is cheap and you do not have to every rip again. ripping even 50 CDs is a pain to have to do again.
