When I try to copy 351.5 Mb .tif files from my DVD-R to a local hard-drive I get a cyclic redundancy check error consistantly on some DVD readers but never on others.
Only 57% of the DVD readers I tested can copy all the files successfully. I would like to be able to create DVDs that would work with a higher percentage of readers. Any suggestions?
DVD-Rs are Ritek DVD-R/4x/G04
Burned on Sony DVD RW DRU-500A using Nero (half were burned at 2x, the others at 4x)
All computers are running Windows.
"Good" DVD readers that always successfully copy .tif files
1. LiteOn XJ HD 166S (Dec. 2002) (have tested 5 of these)
2. Sony DVD RW DRU-510A
3. Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-C2612
4. the DVD writer on which the DVD-Rs were burned
"Bad" DVD readers give cyclic redundancy check errors when copying the last 1-4 .tif files
A. Hitachi L-G Data Storage Inc GCC-4480B (Dec. 2003) (have tested 3 of these)
B. unknown DVD reader approximatly 4 years old
C. Creative DVD5241E (Jan. 1999)
I have a set of six DVD-Rs; four of these are filled to capacity with 12 tiffs (351.5 Mb each) and some smaller files (1 KB - 29.5 MB). The DVD readers have no problems copying the first ~8 tiff files, but the "bad" DVD readers have trouble with the last 1-4 tiffs.
I test the DVDs using the DOS copy command in a batch file (xcopy and Ctrl-C Ctrl-V do not work any better). Seventy-seven DVDs have passed the copy test on the "good" readers. Of these 77 DVDs, I have tested about 14 on the "bad" readers. The "bad" readers gave me cyclic redundancy check errors for some of the files on all 14 DVDs.
Generally, the smaller files have not been giving me problems with the exception of some of the last files read with reader "C."
I have also tried another type of Ritek DVD-R, but this was only successfull in 62% of the "good" DVD readers so I switched to using only the G04.
Thank you
Alyssa
