Hi i am currently in the progress of ripping my dvd collection to a spare hard drive to keep them in good condition.
My question is, is there anyway to rip a dvd to mpeg 2 or mpeg 4 and be able to watch the dvd from the saved files with the chapters intact so if i want to skip to a certain point in the film i can.

Or even just keep the menu and the chapter selction option from there?

I would appreciate any help in how to do this and what software to use.

Your dvds are mp2. The question of keeping the chapters depends upon the amount of space you are willing to use.

I want to change the format to mpeg 4 to play on a archos 5 i dont mind about the space to much but i want to be able to skip through the chapters of have a chapter selection menu.
