I use DVDFab Platinum to back up all my DVDs, I bought the full version so I am able to compress to DVD5 with it. I never have problems backing DVDs up or burning them, but when I go to play them back I always have at least one part in the movie that has a little bit of pixelization, and it usually results in the audio chopping up for a second. The movies still play and don't freeze up, I would just like to produce a perfect backup.

I have tried using DVDshrink, to compress with the same results. I have tried changing the media, and also burning at differenet speeds as well as 2x. Ironically the backups I made with the trial and error methods I did above had the pixelization at the same point in each back up (used the same movie to test this) My burner is more than 2 years old but like I said the errors are occurring in the same mark on the movies.

Does anyone else experience this? Anything I can do? Please help really wanting to produce a perfect copy with no problems.

Pixellation can occur from poor blank media (you didn't mention what brand(s) you are using) burning too fast, and trying to squeeze too much onto one disc.

1. Use good blank media. Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, and Sony.

2. Burn at half the rated speed of the disc or at 6x to 8x max, with no multitasking.

3. Try backing up Main Movie to save on space and preserve overall quality. Or if you simply must have Full Disc, use Dvd Rebuilder to encode the movie and burn with Imgburn.

As I said I tried burning at 2x and 4x (8x discs). But the errors occur at the same exact spot on the same movie. I do believe its because of the compression but I do main movie only my compression level in DVDFab is always at least 70%

Is there any programs I can use after DVDfab decrypts and compresses, to remove the pixelization?

Thanks again

Try this.

Rip to HDD with DvdFab.

Process the files through either FixVts or VobBlanker to clean them up a little bit.

Use Dvd Shrink and remove subtitles, and foreign languages, etc. Run in Deep Analysis then transcode then burn with Imgburn.

Or, Encode using DvdRebuilder then burn with Imgburn. This method is great especially for higher compression films. Be warned, it takes a little bit longer.

Again, i cannot stress how important good blank media is to producing a good quality backup copy.

If I rip to my HDD with DVDfab why would I need to use DVDshrink, DVDfab in customize mode will allow you to remove everything down to just the main movie, or you can burn in just main movie mode.

Should I just try decrypting with DVDfab then compressing with DVDfab then using DVD rebuilder then burning.

I should have stated what my entire process is when backing up a movie. I use DVDfab to decrypt then compress to DVD5 then I use Nero to Burn. Anyone else use DVDfab and have the problems I described in the backup DVD. Sucks I never have any problems backing up the Movie just in the final product I will have about 8-9 scenes that have about a second of pixeliztion. I know it sounds anal because the movies are very watchable I just wanted a perfect backup.

By the way the media I use is TDK DVD-R 1-16x 4.7GB

I think I may of fixed the problem before I was decrypting/compressing with DVDfab to an ISO file then burning with Nero as image file.

I tried decrypting/compressing with DVDfab to VOB files to hard drive then burning with Nero and the movie I was backing burned perfect no errors.

Huh?

Using Dvd Rebuilder would nix the necessity of compressing as it re-encodes the files with virtually no loss in quality. So using DvdFab to compress then ReBuilder would be silly.

Either way, glad you got it sorted out.

Never-the-less, TDKs are generally regarded as less than quality media.

I would definitely agree that the most likely culprit is media. I've even run into this issue one some value line TY's.

Blank media is a factor that nOObs are always willing to argue about. At the same time, it's a huge part of final quality. That's why i made sure to reference it early on in this thread:

I would agree n00bs would think that but in this case, the same movie is pixelating on the same time in the movie 14min 28sec in. So it wasn't the culprit.

I'm not saying that it was indeed the culprit in this case, what i am saying is that it's an often argued factor.

If your burned discs are pixelating on the same time, I would suspect that your source disc could be your problem.

Yep it wasn't the disc but the source image file, not sure why converting to VOB files circumvented the problem.

Anyone backup to ISO and create flawless copies?
