Hello,
I have a 2.4Gb Athlon with 768MB DDR mounted in a MSI KM2M motherboard. I have windows XP and I am having trouble recording anything on my NEC 1300a DVD. I could get to burn a +R DVD but no luck with the -R. When the errors occur, they come from Premiere or from Encore DVD. I am wondering if there is a compatibility issue with my motherboard (which would be pretty strange) or compatibility issues with the DVD disc brand. I someone could give me some pointers I would really appretiate it.

Have you got the latest firmware for this burner? It should be at 1.05.
The burner is qualified for Encore, so should be okay.
The other thing that can, and often does interfere, is any divX codecs installed on your machine. Also, if you installed anny codec bundles such as are widely available. They play absolute havoc with an authoring system as they are effectively a collection of registry hacks. Try checking for this, and remove any codec with X in it's name.
Also, if you could please give a bit more detail about your workflow, that would be cool. I use Encore daily, and find it very good indeed.
The info required, if poss, is:
Type of video file
Subtitles or not
Type of audio file
transcode settings
exactly what happens when attempting to create a disc in -R format.
Many thanks.

Thanks for your fast response.
I will check for codecs to remove them and regarding your questions, I have tryed working with mpg, VOB and AVI files, without subtitles with mp3 and wav audio files and automatic transpose settings which does ok, but when it stars burning it gets stuck in 4 Mb and then it says "cancelling".
The errors are the following:
1) "DEVICE ERROR - SENSE CODE(5 21 02) - INVALID ADDRESS FOR WHITE INCREMENTAL - STREAMING WRITE (DVD ERROR 336130)"
2) "UNKNOWN ERROR (DVD ERROR - 224)"
The first error happens with +R and -R.
I am thinking on changeing it for a Sony DRU-510A. What do you think? Thanks a lot again for your help.

Okay. What build number of Encore are you using?
This problem is well known on the forums - try going to www.adobe.com and browse to the support forums. Register there.
It's well worth the effort.
Also, try updating to 1.01 as well, this makes this issue go away 99/100 times.
Finally, it is generally a good idea to make a disc image and then create the DVD from that. From the file menu, go to make DVD, make DVD image. Once this is done, close the project and then go file/make DVD/from disc image.
All is usually well at this point.
You do have a proper copy of Encore - not an "extended demo" version, if you know what I mean?
If this does not work, can you write down what is happening, and any error messages you see, and post back?
LOL

Hi,
Yes!! Haha... It is an "extended Encore version", but it is already updated to 1.01 and still same the errors. I have tryed to burn a aDVD from an image and again the same results. I will check ADOBE's forums to see whats the error message about. If you have any more questions, please let me know. Thanks again.

That is your problem. Those versions are pre release ones, and basically full of holes. The update patch will not fix the problems.
Go buy the software.

No problem.
I know from my experience that the Encore/Premiere Pro thing works very well indeed.
On the user forums, nearly all the people with issues are either using a pirated version, or else trying to do things outside the DVD specs.
Problem is the specs are quite loose, and the implementation of them is entirely down to the players so some work better than others.
A great place to go for DVD info is www.dvddemystified.com as it is a fine source of info on what can, and more importantly cannot, be done.
A lot of folks seem to think DVD is the same as VCD/SVCD which it definitely isn't. The other thing to bear in mind is that there are a number of different types of DVD: DVD-Video, which includes any audio in DTS or Dolby Digital and uses the Video_TS folder, DVD-Audio which is solely uncompressed PCM/MLP audio only and uses the Audio_TS folder, and not forgetting DVD-ROM which is yet another totally different animal.
Any help I can offer - please just ask. I'll do me best
