I'm trying to back up 3 Music Video DVD's.
1/. They're a pain to try to play in the computer. I get the usual choices of what to play: ie-pick a track, play the entire show or 'extras'. Pick a track to play and it does not happen ( in WMP11, VLC and WinAmp): same goes if I try to play the entire show.
Open 'My Computer', right click the icon of DVD player that shows it has the disc in it, choose 'Open', open the Video_TS folder and there are the VIDEO_TS_BUP, VIDEO_TS.VOB and all of the VTS****.VOB files. Not a .IFO in sight, well, they are there but don't have a Nero Showtime 4 icon like the rest of the files. This also applies to any of the Video_TS folders that I have stored in my computer. It is a VERY recent happening. Before, any DVD disc I put into the DVD Drive opened and played or could be opened to view the enclosed files structure/layout and showed all BUP, IFO and VOB files.

Basically, what d'you reckon the story is with the DVD Discs ( supposedly from Original Manufacturer- Graphics and all on the DVD disc: did notice that there is not a hologram or numbering showing on the inner circle of the discs)

Just wondering is this a DVD Media disc problem, or has some change happened to the media play / read/write part of my computer??
I'm running WXP Pro SP3.
Have never seen the likes of this before. Ok, maybe the DVD's are 'doctored', so they can't be copied/backed-up but the removal of .IFO files shouldn't cause a problem...will it??

More to the point, the Movie files already stored in my computer haven't been under the surgeon's knife that the DVD discs 'may have been'.

Do I need the .IFO's? If I do, how do I get them?....find the same movie in Torrent form and D-load the .IFO's only?? replacing those that are ??, there-but-not-for-gracios-of-Sod?

I'll import the movie from the DVD Disc to HDD and see what transpires.

They are there - but they aren't?

A DVD player requires that the DVD have IFO files - else it will be rejected.

Is this a case of the files being present but 'hidden'?

'Tools' > 'Folder Options' > 'View' > 'Show Hidden Files and Folders' would take care of that.

Do the DVDs play in a standalone player? As attar stated, the IFOs have to be present to play in your standalone, if they play then that would rule out that they are missing.

@ attar
Would the player not resort to the BUP files if the IFOs were in fact damaged or missing? Is that not there purpose, as backups? I am unsure on that, as my navigation structure knowledge is limited :)

@ferguj1

DVD Shrink won't open a folder that has no .IFO files.

Imgburn gives a warning that the files are missing - but will burn the disk.

I have two players that reject the disk and a Philips that will accept it - but the VIDEO_TS folder has to be opened and the VOB file selected.

In the case where there is .BUP files (but no IFO files) the Philips will play it automatically, but my other players reject the disk.

I'm having the same issue as well. In addition, the rip I have didn't produce a *.BUP file as well. Any ideas what could cause this? Bad DVD?

How did you rip your disc?

Use IFOedit to replace missing files. All U have 2 do is open IFO at the bottom you'll see some TABS [Create IFOs] select the 1st VOB and your good. ONE other thing put the ifo & bup files that R already their in the AUDIO_TS for safe keeping B4 U make new ones

If you have the IFO files, process through DVD Shrink. It will create BUP files.

It's been over a month and the OP has not returned. I would say that this thread is dead.
