Hi everyone. First off, this is my first post on the forum, but I've been a long time lurker and visitor of the website.
Recently I've bought two external enclosures for my kreon firmware DVD drive, and my Pioneer 115D dual-layer burner. These drives worked perfectly in my desktop, but lately I've been using a laptop and needed these drives to work externally.
The enclosures are usb/firewire combo, and look to use prolific chipsets.
At first everything seemed to be working fine, the drives show up properly in my computer, and they found discs with no problems. Part of my reason of needing these drives was to make backups of my 360 games, and the kreon drive works fine with xbox backup creator, however it didn't burn the DVD properly. I read that XBC doesn't work well with USB drives, so I tried using imgburn, as well as DVD decrypter, with no luck.
I tried making a backup of dvd movie I had, and seems like no luck either with that. It does seem, however I have luck burning CD's, but I just keep making coasters with DVD's.

Do the external drives work when connected to (not installed in) the desktop?
Does the laptop have USB2.
Do external enclosures have firmware? Is it up to date?
Can you try a single layer disk (Verbatim brand) at 4x or less

attar,
the drives work perfectly in the desktop
yes, the laptop is usb2
I'm not too sure about the firmware. The latest firmware I found on prolifics site looked to be from '07 for their combo (usb/firewire)chipset. I'm assuming since I just bought these they should have the latest firmware, but I guess anything is possible. Here's the enclosures I'm using:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817801023
I tried both DL and single layer DVDs. The nero log file was from trying to burn a movie to a single layer disc. I can try it at a lower speed setting to see if anything changes.
Thanks

I suspect the enclosure for the burner. Would you try to
1, Swap enclosures?
2, Use Firewire?
