hehe..

here's the logic behind my 800 burns.

I've been collecting DVD's for many years.

I own 350 originals, I've made two copies of each .. one copy for my home.. one copy for my cottage. That makes 700 burns. I also made copies for family members (when I have the time)for titles that they own (approximately 100). Since they are family, I charge them $3 for the favour, and that includes the black case. I certainly don't profit from that.. moe like make a little loss if you count the wear on my DVD burner.

I must say.. my LG GSA4040B is giving me a great return on my investment. It just keeps on burning. After that many burns.. I've had about 25 failures attributable to bad media.

Regards,
CK

Hi, I'm new to DVDShrink, but on m first two attempts to backup full DVDs, got major pixelation and skips on two different movies/DVD-Rs. Seems to work fine with no compression and movie only - but with compression using the latest beta, not so good so far. Any help/advice would be welcomed. Thank you!

It could justbe a coincidence that the pixelation and skipping occured due to compression. In my case it turned out to be the media. I don't think it's the software. If you can play it good on your PC (the compressed versions).. then it's not the software.

I also received a proivate m4essage from a member who beleives it may be realtes to the need to update Directx on Windows.

Media inconsistencies could also be the problem.

CK

Good luck and give an update.

Thanks for the quick replies - I must admit, I am using inexpensive DVD-R's, so will try another brand. Btw, it does seem to play on my computer, but not very well in my DVD player. Thanks again!

FYI - after discarding about 2-3 Khypermedia discs that pixelated and/or skipped, I seemed to have success with a UL-Tran DVD-R 1-4x (from am-dig.com) for movie only with no compression. Once I pickup more discs (only had 1 of another brand), will try entire disc with DVDShrink and compression. Just though you would like to know status - Thanks again for your help!

If you get pixelation and skips on your standalone but not on your PC.. then it's probably not your media. It's probably your standalone player which may have difficulties reading DVD-R. Check the specifications to ensure it is capable of playing DVD-R. Some players will be finicky and inconsistent in the way they read DVD-R.
On the media: Once you get a brand which is stable and works well with your burner... then stick with it.

For starters I use DVDshrink because it has given me the best results and reliability of all the software, not because it is free.
It is the only setup that is SMP aware for my duallies. It has never given me pixelation were another program wouldn't.
It is easy to use and burns with DVDdecrypter or Nero.

I own Xcopy and 1 clickDVD and Copy to DVD. I now only use Shrink and DVDdecryter.

I had noticable pixelation on one DVD. It played well and smooth but was slightly grainy. I took a second look at the original DVD and found 4 full movies on it. about 12 gigs total. Widescreen and normal and R and unrated versions. Embrace of the Vampire.
I reburned with the widescreen versions. They look perfect.

I guess this message is for brian100 You said something about " Pinnacle Instantcopy version "7", then using the Hidden settings editor with it. " What and how do you get to the hidden settings editor? I took everyones suggestion and bought Pinnacle Instant Copy "7". I am courious about the hidden settings.
Forget InstantCopy 7, that's old news. Many improvements have been added in InstantCopy 8, more speed, better at hitting the target size of the disc and many more options when 'customizing' your DVD. There is really no need to use Hidden Settings Editor anymore. The nice thing about InstantCopy 8 is it doesn't pixilate or macro block on very long movies, just a bit of softening.

A trial version is available.

Here's what these folks have to say.

CAN ANYONE ANSWER THIS?? I have been trying to rip comedy skits (Dave Chappelle show) and Rock group live DVDs (Rage Against the Machine). Whenever I rip anything to my hard drive, everything plays back fine (Movies and Skits). But when I burn them with Roxio6 and then watch the episodic DVDs like the ones above, they show the Warning signs and FBI stuff and the the DVD just stops. Is this because they are not movies? Try ripping and burning something of this fashion and see what you come up with. I then burned them with 321 and some work and some don't. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE A FLAWLESS SOFTWARE THAT WORKS?

ATHLON 2600XP
Plextor-708A
1024 Corsair DDR400
GForce4 5200
200Gig Western Digital
250Gig Western Digital
200Gig External Maxtor
2500 CDs I hand-ripped myself !!
ANYONE IN THE MARKET FOR SOME MUSIC !!!

Well spend some time on the the newbie side and do some reading. Check out the guides, as the most popular software and tecniques are covered in detail.

You will also see that no one is going to recommend Roxio or even have it on their computer.

Are these DVD 5's or 9's you are trying to backup? If they are under 4.5G you can simply use DVD Decrypter to read and write. Also note the previous posts on media.
