Ok so just some questions.

If my ps2 is unmodded can i put games on my HDD and use an image of HDLoader on a cd/dvd?

Or do i have to use the MC exploit first?

Also if i do the MC exploit do i have to put in the PSX game then switch it out every time just like if i were to use game backups on dvds?

Yes, unless after you install the PS1 exploit, you then install fmcb 1.8 .
Then you can just load hddloader 8c from the Sony Browser

Download all the files you need, first the noobie package, then the DVDELF.bin file, then using uLaunch.elf and your usb pen drive you can install the FREE_MCBOOT.ELF

Ok so let me get this straight.

I need to do the ps1 exploit and then use it to install fmcb 1.8 onto my memory card.

When i do that i can run HDLoader from my MC and will no longer need to use any cd's period.

That is correct. You can then just start up your PS2, and you can launch any ELF file from the browser without using any discs.

You will then also be able to patch ISO files with the ESR disc patcher and use ESR to launch backups.

you will find the disc patcher in this thread. The ESR elf is already included in the Noobie package.

Thanks, your a great help.

A couple more trivial questions, is this fine for a hdd?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145162

And will i be able to save games to my HDD instead of my MC? I think my MC will not have enough memory for many games.

Also, how large is the image for HDLoader supposed to be? I read its low, but I see 800mb+ torrents.

Are verbatim the best dvd type for ps2?

Is the HDLoader supposed to be patched or something?

It would be easier to ask if you had AIM or something of the sort.

Hi Colornk, to see what hdds are compatible with ps2 check this list http://ps2drives.x-pec.com/?p=list as for saving to hdd, you can do with a small app called vmc (virtual memory card) or memory card emulator there are tutorials for it just google for them or try searching on here. And hdloader is available as an elf, im not sure if you can find it on here but there are plenty of sites which have it e.g www.sksapps.com under ps2 apps/hdd. Hope this helps

If it aint broke....mod it! ;)

Thank you got1k.
Although i cannot find the hard drive i will buy on the site you provided, im fairly certain it will work. I am also confident I can get this to work so once the HDD arrives I'll try it. Thanks again both of you.

The hdloader.elf will already be installed to the mc, if you download the "noobie package" I linked to above.

Here is the guide for "virtual mc emulator"

Here also is a link on "By editing the VMC file usbemu.elf {by ffgriever } you can fix some games compatibility

And lastly how to get games to your hdd. link
sksapps.com has a good compatibility thread and another one is here.
