First, thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Per the subject I am trying to go from a ReplayTV .mpg to DVD. Here is the logical sequence:

1) From ReplayTV to PC using DVArchive (No problems works great)
2) Open the .mpg file in Womble and do a system stream convert to MPEG-2 program stream (No problem)
3) Open the resulting .mpg in DVD-Author -> Get an invalid file format error.

Now, you can't go directly from the ReplayTV .mpg to DVDAuthor either so it appears that I'm doing something wrong in Womble. If you have a suggestion, please be as specific as possible.

Other notes: I have tried both high and medium quality on the ReplayTV.

My platform is Dell 2.8GHZ P4, Windows XP Home and 512Meg of RAM.

Ok I answered my own question. Hopefully this will help others out trying to do the same thing.

The correct sequence of events is

1. Hook ReplayTV to PC via Ethernet connection

2. ReplayTV -> PC - Use DVArchive on the PC and download the ReplayTV MPG files from ReplayTV

3. ReplayTV MPG -> DVD Compliant MPEG-2 - Use Womble's MPEG2VCR product and (edit out commercials - optional) save using MPEG-2 Program Stream

Note: Don't do a stream conversion, Do a save

4. Use DVD Author to convert to VOB's and create file structure.

5. Burn w/ DVD Author or burning tool of your choice.

Works great!

Well done, mate.

You are one of the few Newbies who actually bother to even TRY to investigate for themselves.

Congrats!!

Good thing too, coz I don't know ANYTHING about what your problem was.

ReplayTV ? - is that repeats of TV Programmes?
Womble ? - does he come from Wimbledon? (old British Kids programme)

Have Fun, and Welcome....

Life is just more of the same:

ReplayTV is a PVR (personal video recorder) sold by the company of the same name. They also provide an online guide to programs and make it very easy to automate the recording of TV shows. The 5000 series also includes features that allow it to automatically zap out commercials and share shows over networks. The ethernet connection makes it easy to move the recorded shows (in a peculiar variant of MPEG-2 format) to a PC where they are quite watchable but not compliant for DVD burning. Hence the need to convert them.

Womble is a company that provides two MPEG editing tools that when used correctly, DUH put the files in DVD compliant MPEG format. It also does other things as well.
