ok i've had a swap magic 3.3 for ages, i don't see why i need the new ones. I suppose people say the newer ones have higher compatability abilities yet i've always gotten games to work fine.

but not too long ago my swap magic dvd 3.3 wouldn't load, its been on and off, keeps getting new scratches and i try to repair with a repair kit

anyways finally it won't load no more, yet cd does so i assume the dvd version is just screwed, so i went and bought a swap magic 3.8 i think it is

tried it, and samething happens, cd works but dvd doesn't work

a couple of times at the beginning it would say 'no data' now it does that samething like the SM 3.3 DVd...i.e comes onto the screen with memory card and cd icons

why won't it read dvd no more? is the lazer screwed? i tried a commercial dvd and it loads fine. Why is my PS2 slim rejecting my SM dvds??

The same thing is happening to me, I have v3.6. I think that it's just the scratches, the data is only pressed in two places (I believe), as soon as they are scratches your screwed. But it could be that your disc isn't secured fully, so try pushing the disc all the way down when you put it in. If it still doesn't work I suggest you exploit your ps2 and use ESR or Cogswap.

thankyou for your reply,

even though i'm a noob who loves to learn new stuff about homebrewing, whether its psp,ds,iphone, ipod etc

i never knew about exploits for ps2, i just thought the major break through was SM, and i suppose that made me fall behind on the updates.

is cogswap just a simple program to play an original ps2 game so it loads up the TOC, stops the motor then i put in my backup or ntsc game?

i'd look it up on youtube but my net is capped/limited

i did alot of reading all over the place, to the point my head hurts, and heard cogswap and about mcboot. i'm confused about Mcboot how that patches, i originally assumed you patch the game before you burn it (i.e a small program does it) but i could be wrong, and if its done by SM then thats lame, because the disc dont' boot up.

Can you give me further indepth details to a fellow newbie?

I haven't tried the whole MCBoot thing yet as i don't have enough room on any of my memory cards (need to buy another). First, MCBoot doesn't boot up games, it allows to save programs on a MC, you will still need this. You also need ESR, which is a lot better than cogswap, all you need to do is patch an .iso and boot the program. This site will help you a lot on how to download the exploit . It also includes ESR (Boot program), SMS (Media Player), and LaunchElf (Best elf and file manager for PS2) and the patcher for ESR can be found here.

Good Luck. :) Tell me what happens.

hey cobra,

um, without reading anything else, from what i gather I:

1. use a patcher to patch iso
2. burn the game
3. use mcboot to put program (i.e ESR) to MC
4. boot program (ESR) to load the patched game

correct? anyways i'll do what you said, and i'm also reading another tute a person recommended from here

btw i just finished watching (with my crappy capped net)

this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uu1gdSjtlVo

you said patched way is better then cogswap, i assume because its similar to the patched games for dreamcast, although dreamcast is easier in a way, just patch and then you no longer need a bootdisk as its self-bootable and the console needs no modding.

update: why is the ESR only 26k and it says rar but i can't open it?

my apologies for a double post, sksapps.com website you mentioned is good, all the necessary files are linked towards psx-scene. That site is amazing.

my apologies if i'm driving you up the wall however, i'm trying to get the files to look like this:

http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmc...tall_guide.html

however ulauncheELF contains 3 things

* ps2client (i dont' know what it does)
* uLE v4[1].38 boot(both cd and dvd version...what do i do with them?)
* uLE v4[1].38 (is that the boot.elf i need? it goes to mcboot folder right?)

also sms and ESR don't have specific *elf extensions mentioned, do i still need to locate a ESR.ELF and SMS.ELF?

i don't have a hdd for my ps2 so do i still need the hdloader?

i looked at the tute but its not very good in explaining it tells you what you need, but then shows a GUI screen i.e program running

how do i get from THIS step (i.e files) to putting it into my memorycard and running it? is gameshark the only method.

lol maybe we need some sort of msn thing going here

Yea that would probably help you have Live Messenger?

Well in response the package you have you have to download the apps separately (SMS, ESR) . Yes you need a program to un-.rar things. Most people suggest WinRAR, but I like 7-Zip, it's faster.

You don't need HDLoader if you don't have an HDD or have a slim. You can delete that, takes up space along with all the .txt files in the "INSTALL" folders.

To install these you need either a USB stick and SM 3.8, which you have, you could use a Gameshark or AR Max with USB, or you could use a CD-R with SM or modchip. (*UPDATED*) For more instructions go here and scroll down to you see your install method, read on, VERY useful.

Ps2client is for ps2dev, unless you want to homebrew things, delete it, and the uLE v4[1].38 is uLaunchElf, the second one is the one you need.

BTW what FMCB package did you download? And sorry for double post, unless newbies can't edit posts. >:/ Wait nvm.

*****(*UPDATE*)*****
I did it! It works!

This happens sometimes when using swap magic wrongly (for example, accidently pressing the eject button when you need to use the swap tool).
This is the solution:
1-Reboot your PS2 with an original game inserted.
2-let the game load.
3-reboot the PS2 with swap magic and try using your swap magic again.

Oh I see, yes that might work, the higher TOC of a game gets the laser reading faster; almost as if it doesn't want to read SM like it's lazy or something (Wouldn't be surprised :| ). Unless the problem is the disc itself.

Well you have the ESR.elf on your USB drive (I gather that's what you used?) Just use your file browser in uLaunchElf to access it and hit the RUN CDVD when the ESR screen pops up.

Still having trouble? PM me your messenger address, it will speed things up. No worries i'm not a spammer or hacker.
