I'm converting some divx files to DVD using Convertxtodvd but the problem is they skip, pixalte and freeze a lot.

What could be the problem? The files play fine on the computer.

I'm using DVD-R from TDK to burn them. I was thinking maybe I got a bad batch. Can anyone shed some light.

Set the encoding to high quality in ConvertXtoDVD and you need to realize that the encoded quality is never going to be as good on your TV as the original on your computer. Depend's where that TDK was made, they have some very good and very bad media. Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim (made in Taiwan), any made in Japan, is good, people swear by Taiyo Tuden and Verbatim. Here's a comparison chart to go by: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm A good rule of thumb is to burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the media

Thanks a lot. I used long encoding time. I switched it to normal encoding and still loads of problems.

The DVD-R is 1-16x and I've been burning it at 4X.

I just burnt a movie and did the CD-DVD Quality check on Nero and the quality is real bad. It goes down to 0 with tons of errors.

Well I made another copy burning at 8x this time to see if the score improved and I got a 93 Quality Score this time.

What is mfg code on those TDK's ? If they are cmg's that's the worst mfg available. I've seen bad reviews on those TDK's in the media forum. By luck you might get 1 or 2 good DVD's out of a 50 pack. Also it might read good right after you burn it but within 6 months the quality will degrade.

For burning dvd's I only use sony 16x (+or-) it's the one that works the best that you can buy off the shelf.

Check the dvd media section in this forum you will get some good advice there on what brand to use.

I checked and they are made by Ritek according to Nero.

I just ordered a pack of Taiyo Yuden.

What I want to know know is why the quality score went up when I increased the writing speed to 8x? Before I was going at 4x and the quality score in Nero was at 0.

It's a myth that lower speeds always give a better burn. It's not true,
it depends on the media and/or burner. The test you did reveals the
truth and it's not a bad idea to do it when ever you change media.

I am baffled. I just made two copies of the same movie using the TDK DVD-R made by Ritek, both showed horribled quality on the Nero scan.

It's got a quality score of zero.

I mean are Ritek DVDs that bad.

I'm now wondering if it's the encoding process on Convertxtodvd?

No. A Quality Scan has nothing to do with the encoding.

Nothing strange about that. Manufacturers who are making 22X drives these days aren't concerned with stone age burning speeds. Write strategies are optimized for rated speeds.

here's one of my burns. 8X -R Taiyo Yudens burned at 12X (scanned in my BenQ) burned on a Pioneer 115D.

Burn at 1/2 speed? NO way.
