i have movies on my pc hard drive, need to convert them to a .ts so i can put them on my external hd to play them throught my pvr sat. rec. what software do i need. please help. thanks

I convert TS to PS, but VLC media player can open an mpg and save it as a TS.
No guarantee as to whether it suits your purpose.

For a DVD, the VOB files have to be converted to one large .mpg file using VOB2MPG.

Next, VLC is started and 'File' > 'Wizard' selected.
Choose 'Transcode/Save to file' > 'Next'
Select a stream (the large .mpg) and proceed past the 'Transcode' screen (you don't want to transcode the file) to 'Encapsulation'.
Select 'MPEG TS' and choose a path for the output and give the file a name (newfile.mpg or newfile.ts) and save.
