Gday,

I have the above burner and have been burning onto MATCO DVD-R discs. I have backed up a lot of data on to a couple of discs. When i have gone to access this info it has given me CRC erros when tryin to get the info off. This is the case on a few of the backup discs i have burnt. Also, on a disc I backed up a couple of AVI's. These play fine off the DVD but cannot copy off the disc onto my HDD. My question is is this a Hardware problem, Media problem or user error? Is there somethin i may be doing wrong? ANd is there something i can use to get the data off these DVD-R's that arent working....

Hiya,

Almost certain to be a Poor Quality Media(tm) problem.

The Sony's can be a bit "fussy" when it comes to media.

Buy a couple of Good Quality Re-Writables to experiment with, this allows you to fine-tune your backup procedure without wasting loads of disks.

If you get it wrong, wipe the media and try again until it is right.

Then you know your procedures work.

Then try out a couple of the Good Quality(tm) makes - Ritek G04, Verbatim etc (NOT Memorex, NOT cheap'n'cheerful etc..)

Once you have found a good make that your Sony likes, and can be read/played elsewhere, STICK WITH IT.

Good Media is cheaper in the long run.
