Hello, for the past few months now I've been looking into modifying a PS2. My only problem is, is that I need a modchip that will fit my basic needs. For starters, I need a modchip that will support most discs, such as DVD5 and DVD9. I also need a modchip that will support the use of cheat devices because this is a must have for me on those games I don't feel like getting all my stuff back that I earned 3 years ago. So, can the community here please give me some suggestions on what modchip to purchase to fit my needs?

I would go for a Matrix Infinity Mod Chip, it seems to be one of the best PS2 modchips out there. It cost 30 USD (depends of the shop). The hardest part is the soldering, a lot of console mod shops can solder it for you but for an expensive prize (I saw some who would sell the chip + solder it for you for 90 euro, the funniest part is a PS2 costs 99 euro in the shops here in Holland).
I dont have one because I couldnt solder it, the pins where (according to my eyes) very very small, so I got my self a Swap Magic 3.8 wich allows you to use Action Replay codes with the backup games. In case you didnt know what Swap Magic is, its a disc that allows you to play any backup. I must admit I never was disappointed with the Swap Magic always worked for me!
I always have used Sony DVD+r's for the job, they never failed me (I got them very cheap 100 spindle for 15 euro).

I'm sorry, but you didn't help me at all. Swap magic is garbage because it doesn't allow the discs I want to use, DVD+R is garbage in my opinion. Does Matrix Infinity allow cheats?

He told you what chip to use in his opinion,if you get off your jacksie & do a search of local chip suppliers they'll have the details & specs of what the chips can play etc
Chips allow use of gameshark etc so yes, again you need to check the specs for what chip you get,my ps2's use DUO3 & are compatable with hdadvance & sharks etc
DVD+R for your future reference is one & the same as DVD-R,what's the diff then you ask, well it's real simple all dvd players can play - type disks only some can play + types, well once upon a time anyway, all players can now play - & + media including RW etc,so it does'nt matter these days what type of format media you use,one is not better than the other anyone who says otherwise is full of it

I don't have an attitude, maybe you should stop getting one with me. Google is not the answer, and it doesn't qualify for being an answer. I just want to know what's best, not some crappy substitute or something that's limited.

I respect the fact that you're a senior member and all, but please have your information straight when trying to lecture me. I may be a newbie on these forums, but that doesn't make me an uninformed idiot.
DVD-R and DVD+R are not same, stop saying they are. Not all DVD players can support all formats, so get your information straight. It really depends on what format the modchip will support too, so again, get your information straight.
Not all suppliers of modchips list the specs of the chip, and whether or not it'll support gameshark or action replay.
Also, if everyone's all mighty answer is going to be google or to use some other search engine, why did I come here? I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but I want an answer, not something that's going to leave more questions than answers.
Note: I've searched way too much on this subject, that's why I'm here. I'm just tired of it, excuse me for using you all as a last resort. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just a blunt person. If you don't like it, then don't even attempt to answer me. I'm not an idiot, I understand that not all DVD drives support everyone unlike someone here.

Senior member means nothing as it's based on x amount of posts one makes
Both the first two of my paragraphs refer to checking compatability of what the chip can do,based on compatibility & what the chips specs are,if local supplier can't give a list of what the chip is capable of there are others that do
regarding dvd media type re read my first comment on it preferably more carefully this time..lol..also take note i was'nt referring to past tense
EDIT:
ps: i look forward to further debate so long as your in agreement or i'll be forced to take more serious steps, after all you young punks need to respect your elders :P

Lol, that made me laugh. Almost any modchip retailer lists the features of any product they have. As for the Matrix modchip yes it does run a copy of Codebreaker/gameshark/Ar max (or any other back up cd). I told you to use Google after you came up with the "I'm sorry, but you didn't help me at all". Here is the link to the Matrix Infinity site (I used Google :D)

They may list features of the products, but not all of the features. Meaning I wouldn't know what I was buying or if it would do what I wanted. Not everything goes out and says it'll run gameshark or action replay, and that's a must in a modchip for me. I cannot go without that, no sir ree.
