Hello!

I'm getting this error "power calibration error" while trying to burn dvd's lately.
i understand that it has somthing to do with failure to write the lead-in part in the process.
The weird thing is that i CAN burn regular CD's but not DVD's anymore..

I HAVE TRIED the following steps with no luck:

I've tried different medias for burning
I've re-installed the software in the windows device manager.
I've updated NERO and IMGBURN to the latest version.
I've flashed the FIRMWARE to a later version (from 1.3 to 1.5)
from liggy dee's firmware update page.
The IMAPI cd-burning COM service is off in the managment tools.
I've tried burning in lower speeds (x4) and without multissesion.
I've cleaned the lense with a cleaning disc.

PLEASE i need your help! i'm desperate with this one!
I don't have money right now for a new burner and i'm using it frequently.

BTW i'm using windows XP and i will put the log error here for your professional eyes...

I think you did everything you possibly could?

(I believe writing CD and DVD are different functions and parts of the drive.)

As was noted the DVD functions usually go first and the burner can still handle CD functions.

Go into Device Manager find the burner-> right click-> Properties-> Uninstall, than restart.

You could also then try this little app.

Probably time for a new burner.

.CMC.MA..G..AM3.

crap disks.. update drive firmware and try imgburn with a proper disk not a pre-made coaster.

Finally with nec drives.. they get dusty.. clean the sensitive parts..

Also note the newer drives reviewed at CDFreaks often produce very good results burning CMC discs at their rated speeds.

Anecdotal evidence is meaningless. Many of these folks have worn out burners, their burners going bad while using CMC discs would only make sense as the bulk of media sold in the USA under various 'Brand names' is CMC. Looking at some of the new drives tested and reviewed at CDFeaks we see some meaningful quantitative evidence of how they handle CMC Mag media. Here are just 3 examples.

Starting with the Lite-On iHAS422:

The result is very good.

Let's try the Pioneer DVR-116DBK.

The result is very good.

How about the LG GH22LP20.

Good quality on this Philips media from CMC Magnetics.

If you don't know how to interpret these scans/numbers CDfreaks has an excellent explanation.

Here in the USA the overwhelming majority of discs sold are either CMC or Ritek. Reading customer comments on the various HP, Philips, Memorex, Imation discs sold by retailers you'll find that most folks are overwhelmingly satisfied with the results. "Great, no coasters", "Will buy again" and "would recommend" are frequent comments.
