I'm new to the video scene but experienced with PC's. I'm using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and having problems with a couple of disks - getting cyclical read errors - sector problems. I tried this multiple DVD's, same title, new condition, errors occur on the same files.
I read all of the posts I could find on these - research and tried many different things. I also noticed that most of these posts / discussions date back to 04 and 05 - nothing current on the subject. I'm guessing something changed in the years and these two programs are not the best anymore??
1) trying to read the disk directly with DVD Shrink first gets read errors and cannot continue.
2) reading the disk directly with DVD Decrypter first (read error ignored and retries set to 0) in file and ISO mode copies the files just fine. Attempting to open the files with DVD Shrink afterwards from a VIDEO_TS directory has problems. The ISO copy does not create a video_ts.ifo file (gets error that file does not exist). The file copy creates this file but I now get an error vts_01_1.vob has a data problem (this is the same file that had original read errors / sector problems - it is a 1 gig file). I tried replacing this vob file with copies of the other good vob files but it still gets the read error.

This worked just fine. One glitch though -- opening files with DVD Shrink gave me a the same problem I indicated in the first post. File open allows you to point to a directory only, then looks for video_ts.ifo. DVD Shrink kept telling me it could not find the file.
To resolve, I went to windows explorer, selected the file and said to open with DVD Shrink. It worked, the encoding started. I'm using Vista, wondering if this is a Vista glitch?

Yay! A n00b that read and searched the forum!!! You're already in good with us.
Good luck with future burns and just keep making sure your DVDFab is up to date, though I personally prefer using AnyDVD w/ CloneDVD... well worth the money.

No go. DVD Shrink takes you to the directory, no further. You can click on the directory till the moon goes down, you never see any files. Does it do this in a different OS? I have Vista.

When you go to the folder, do you go to the VIDEO_TS sub folder?
Do you have Shrink set to automatically open sub folders?
99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

I've tried the automatically open sub folders setting but I always go to the video_ts folder and open it.
It has never worked for me on this computer with Vista. Are you running Vista? If so, does it open the file? If not, what OS are you running. Anyone running Vista - have the same problem?
