I am currently using DVDFab HD Decrypter 5.2 and am having lots of troubles trying to back up my movies. I have never had this problem before. I dont know if it has anything to do with the fact that my laptop that im on just got reformatted. The average time it is taking is about an hr and some odd minutes. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Try updating to the latest version of DVDFab.
In DVDFab's settings there is the option to check your DMA. Try that.

First off, we know nothing about your computer.
Please provide as much information as possible.

Second, what exactly are you doing with DVDFab? Are you just ripping or are you ripping and compressing?

What type of DVD drive?
It appears you have an old system.
How clean is the file system?
When was the last time you defragged?
Do you have other programs running. How many programs run at startup. The list can go on and on.

I have a Philips SPD3100L USB burner. I just got this laptop back since I had major errors with it and the comp tech had to format it. So everything is running smooth again. The programs that start up when windows starts up are the basic ones that are at start up. No other program is open when I am trying to rip a dvd.

I would like to thank you for your help. I talked to a comp tech last night and he said there is nothing wrong with my machine or the burner. Its the fact that since my laptop is an older model, it doesnt have the proper usb plug to be able to do what I want it to do.

Aha, if your laptop ports are only USB 1.1 all is not lost.

If you have a free PCMCIA slot you can purchase a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card and may have better results.
