Any free software to shorten an mpeg movie file or video clip to certain scenes?

Hi I thought it would be easier to find, but I cannot find any software to reduce a whole mpeg file or video/movie clip file to just certain scenes, say 10-20 minutes in length rather than 50 plus minutes. Can dvd shrink do this (which I already have)? I have flash dvd ripper but only the trial version which means you can only cut 5 minute segments. I though this would be a really easy function in this day and age, can anyone enlighten me? I really need to save space on my hardrive.

You can select clips with DVD Shrink.
Open the VIDEO_TS folder (or the disk or the .iso file) and click 'Re-author'.
Drag Title 1 from right to left.
Right click on Title 1 and select the clip you want.
If you want to add to this selection, drag Title 1 from right to left again and repeat the selection.
When finished click 'Backup'.

For MPEG2 files you can also use MPEG2cut2
