If the game comes in cd format then its fine, but if it's dvd then a dvd writer is required.

Do you need a mod chip to play copies of PS2 DVD rom games? Or is there software you can add to the DVD when copying?

You can actually get a ps2 game onto a 700mb cd after a long process of finding movies and dvd format files etc.. and replacing them with dummy files.

The process takes days

Hey all! Guys, don't make it to hard on yourselves. All you need to do is this:
1. Get a modchip for your playstation 2 that is the correct one for your model (I recommend going to www.gamegizmo.com).
2. You need to have either Nero or Prassi Primo. I find Prassi easier.
3. You need a gameshark 2.
4. You need a cd or DVD writer.
5. You need to go to www.psxcopyworld.co.uk and click on tutorials and read, read, and read. Very simple explanations.

Hope this helps.

Where can I find the Prassi Primo software to download? If a PS2 game is on DVD media, can I copy it to a blank CD using Prassi or Nero, or do I need a DVD burner?

I just bought the Pioneer 105. I'm trying to use Prassi Primo 2.0 or Nero. I can't get either software to recognize the Pioneer.
I just updated the ASPI drivers, but I'm still having the same problem.
Would anyone know what else I need to do?

I have a HP DVD+r/rw 200i burner and a PS2 30004R v5 with the Messiah chip.
I burn my DVD based games with Nero 5.5.9.17 on DVD+r or +rw.
I burn my CD based games with CloneCD 4 on CD-r.

I always copy on the fly (1:1) so No Image !

No probs at all !

The Messiah rules ..

As far as I know the PS2 does not read RW's. May be I'm wrong but it didn't work for me so I got a Pioneer 104 and now everything is perfect.

Magic 2 does not play Jap PS1 import originals, Magic 3 (and presumably Magic 3.5) does.

I would think of the magic 2 as just becoming outdated now!

Ok! I have a R-Mod v6 mod chip - I assume, since I have the no solder type for version 6 - and I recently purchased the "new" Gameshark V2. I followed both instructions of booting A backup DVD-R by doing the double swap ( swap GS2 with Original PS2 DVD with a TOC larger than the DVD-R and replacing that one with the backup after entering "Start Game" + "Without Codes". Also the second method of using Dave Mirras codes and enter "with Codes" instead, but I don't get the "Too Many Codes.." error unless I select about 133 cheat codes. And even after that when I click "Ok", it goes back to the list and I hit "O" to go back and then "Start Game" + "Without Codes" and before I hit "X" again, I press eject for 2 seconds, and swap PS2 Original with my backup, BUT NOTHING!!These are my questions:
Do I have to have the Dave Mirras' Original?
What is the sequence I need to do to get my backup to work?

About the Backup itself:
Is Nero 5.5.10 -Full edition - good to copy PS2?
How do I need to save the backup? As a Image? Should I copy all the folders of the Game on the hard drive and then copy it from there?

Any quick and complete information regarding proper burning PS2 backup games would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
