3ple X!!!

Look man I got the Pioneer DVR-104 and I got Nero 5.5.10. I copied the game on a Verbatim DVD-R, and then I followed the instructions to boot the DVD backup as the site you recommended told me too - which by the way was one of the most useful sites I've found so far. But for some reason my game gets stuck and it sounds like it begins to load at times, but it won't finish loading.
Also, to do the Dave Mirra trick, I have to select about 130+ cheats before it even gives me the "Too many codes..." error. And even then when I swap out the original with the backup - and I'm using the same game - nothing happens. I'm wondering:
1) Did I backup to DVD right? - it shows up on
pc the same as
the regular game
2)I do have a mod chip - not sure which one it is, I believe it's a R-Mod version 6 type, but I wanted to know how do I know its not bad? -
The original plays fine, so I can't
assume my board is bad, but I'm still
wondering if that's a possibility.

This is not only for 3ple X, but the site he recommended, www.psxcopyworld.co.uk , was very useful for some of the software out there used to burn CD's and DVD's. Anyone who can help, I'd appreciate it and recommend you in all the sites I'm logged into.

Thanks,

v/r - Rock

Hey Rock!

I'm glad to hear that the page I gave you helped :).

Now, regarding your problems. Hears what I'd do:
First of all, I'd use Prassi Primo to back up games if I was you. Now, when you have that program, all you have to do, is build a global image of the original DVD. Then you turn off the Auto Insert Notification by double clicking on it and selecting of and then restarting your computer.
Once there, the rest is a piece of cake. You select to burn a global image and put the image on your DVD-R.

Now, one thing to keep in mind, is that the PS2 is very picky with the type of media you use. So, I recommend that just for the beginning to see if everything is working at all, you buy a DVD-R from a good brand - for example, buy one from Pioneer - they work excellent, but are pretty costly (5 DVD-R's about $25) compared to other brands.

Now, I'm not saying that you can't use Nero to do all of this, but with Prassi Primo I just consider it easier. It's your call - this is just what I recommend.

After you have done all this and have your back up on the DVD-R, boot up Gameshark 2. After it started, press eject and insert a DVD with a bigger TOC than that of the back up you made (the DVD you insert has to be an original one). Then select Gameshark codes, go into any game, and toggle any codes on or off. Press start, select without codes, and press X. When you come to the screen where I think it says updating codes, keep your finger on the eject button until the drive comes out. Put in your back up and after a few seconds the drive should go back in by itself. If it does not do this, then you will have to press eject again yourself to make it go back in and the game should load up after a few seconds. If this does not work, then there is something wrong with the Mod chip.

Hope this LONG explanation helped ;).

Obey the rules and you'll be fine...

DVD-R and DVD R are the SAME thing. However, there is a difference between DVD+R and DVD-R. They are different formats. Which media to use depends on your modchip.

Hey 3pleX:

I'm still having trouble gettin the DVD-Rom based games to play. However, I can play recorded CD-R's which at least gives me some release. But as we know, these will be extinct with the way games are getting more and more complicated. Anyways, I was having trouble with Nero copying DVD+R's. It would ask to insert a DVR-R/RW. I am assuming that Nero only recognizes -R/RW types. But in my initial approach, I copied the game using Nero, a Verbatim DVD-R and copied on the fly. However, when booting, using the GameShark trick, didn't work. Finally my question, Can you tell me step by step how you do to make your DVD games play? Also, how can I tell which mod-chip I have? I am not sure I got a Messaih, but I think I have a: R-Mod?
Thanks in advance.

@papi_rock: Ok, how can you tell which modchip you have - you can't I guess unless you open up your PS2 and check if it says its name on the modchip.

One thing - you must have version 2 of GS2 for this guide to work. Ok, here's the guide on booting a using GS2:

1.Insert GS2 and press restart.
2.After you are at the main menu press eject and exchange the GS2 cd with a DVD-R original game that is bigger than your back-up (GTA: Vice City has the greatest table of contents that I have encountered).
3.Press eject again for the tray to move back in and then select gameshark codes.
4.Select any game and check and/or uncheck any codes.
5.Press start and select without codes.
6.Press X and when it says uploading codes, keep your finger on the eject button until the light on it turns turns yellow or orange.
7.When the light changed color, the tray should have moved out. Exchange the original DVD earlier inserted, with your back-up. This should be done pretty fast because the tray usually moves back in by itself after 5 seconds. If the tray does not go back in automatically, do it manually by pressing eject once more.
8.Wait until the game boots.

You're welcome ;).

Sorry, don't know to much about modchips. If you want more info you should check out www.gamegizmo.com and see if you find the one you are talking about there.

@3pleX, I apreciate you taking time to run down on the process. I think there's something more to my system. I did the process you described but my system will sit there reading the disc but not loading it. But I'm also not sure if it was because the 2nd media I had was +R. But it was the same deal with the Verbatim DVD-R. I'll be trying it again this week and I'll keep you posted.
@c_dawg, The 3.5 chip is the "best" out there for people who don't want to go thru the process of getting a Game Shark and bootin up from another CD. But you have to manually solder the board to the PS2. It takes 15-22 wires to solder. If you buy the adapter board ( and extra $30) you can cut down the amount of wires to 7. But you still have to manually solder them yourself or have someone whose a professional to do it. I'm an electronics Tech, so I did mine for my playstation one when I modified it. But the PS1 only cost me $49, I'm not gonna take my chances with my PS2, which I bought when it was still over $200. But if you are looking to boot back-up games without the GameShark, then the 3.5 chip is the latest one, but it would be best if you bought the adapter with it so you decrease your chances of destroying your console. hope that clears somethings up for you.

I have the new PS2 flip-top cover and the swap magic Cd's. I used cdrwin to burn my cd based Ps2 games. I do not have a DVD burner yet so cant burn the new good games. The PS2 did not read my copy of SSX which is CD based. I did everything correctly. Can someone help me out and let me know if there is something that I can correct? Also is the game shark really necessary since I have this flip-top cover and swap magic cds?

Thanks

ok guys and gals. after weeks of trying i finally was able to play dvd copies on my ps2.
first- i have no magic or messiah chip they are to damn expensive. i am using pnp stealth no solder chip for version 5 and gameshark 2.
second- i have an old version of nero 5582 and i also tried record now both worked fine and i didn't have to download these games to my hard drive first. maxell and memorex don't work but verbatim and imation do. i would stick with the verbatim though. my problem all along wasn't the burning programs or the media (dvd-r)
it was the booting instructions i got on line.
you have to press the eject and x button at the same time after you select a game and toggle on or off 1 code. select start, select with codes, then when it reads insert disk and press x, press both eject and x at the same time while holding eject down for 2 seconds, wait for drive to open and swap with your copy.
that is it
