I read the 4 post forum, but what about if I don't want to do it with Fab. I've been using any/clone forever with no problems at all so why would i want to switch now? That's why I was asking if anyone has had a successful attempt with these two. If not, then I'll let this one pass.

In addition to Jo's reply prior to this one, and pretending for a moment that AnyDVDcouldn't actually do this or a.n.other movie, using (permanently free) DVDFab is a total no brainer. But each to their own i guess. Strange, but each to their own.
Every now and then a movie comes out that AnyDVD needs an update for, the same is true of DVDFab. So really it should be a case of using whatever works, even if it's just a short-term solution (and as i say, when the solution is free, and dead simple to boot, it doesn't make sense to just dismiss it) :)
I used AnyDVD 6.5.4.0 and first used the "rip video DVD to Harddisk..." option. Once completed, I used DVD Shrink 3.2...In DVD Shrink, I went to Re-Author and then found the VIDEO_TS folder created via the AnyDVD rip video DVD to Harddisk process. DVD Shrink then allows you to backup your files. Worked for me...give it a shot...
