Hi all.
I have looked at a thresd just below mine about out of sync XVID.
My problems a tad different as in my XVIDs are out of sync on my computer.
Is there anything that can be done??
The audio is slightly behind the video.

Hmmm, yet more problems with these avi's.
I decided to burn them and see what happened.
My portable dvd player and my main dvd player usually plays XVID.
My portable says that the video resolution is not supported?
My main says that either the codec or resolution is not supported, I take it it will be the resolution as it usually plays XVID?
What can be done?

Hi Mystice.
To be blunt, I know diddly squit about all this.
I started a thread a week or so ago cause my portable wouldn't play certain avi's.
I got a reply telling me to use avi recoder, it worked, I was chuffed.
I thought, great, these avi's are XVID, my players know XVID, all will be fine, they wouldn't play.
What I have done is used Nero to burn them to DVD, i wasn't keen on doing this due to the time it takes but this seems to have gotten rid of my problems.
The audio/video is in sync and they play on my portable player. I shall do the same with the rest.
However, I would like to continue learning, so, if you have time, what do you mean by Quote:

As far as I knew, if the codec was compatible the file would play, ha, what a fool I am, educate me or show me a tutorial if you can.

What MysticE is saying,
Load the files in GSpot or VideoInspector ( http://www.videohelp.com/tools/VideoInspector ) to find information about your videos. See if they are within the specs of your player. If you have one video that works and other that doesn't, compare them and see what's different.

Hi all.
Thanks for the replies.
Cyprus room did what you said but i'm not sure which bits are relevant?
The file that works and the one that doesn't are both XVID.
Differences I can see are,if I call the working avi * and the other ^
VIDEO
* XviD 1.2.1Final
^ XviD ISO MPEG-4
AUDIO
* 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer3 4800hz 128kb/s tot, joint stereo LAME 3.90
^ same except no LAME 3.90
Does any of that give a reason? Theres lots more but as I say i'm not sure what to look at.

What program did you use to make these xvid's ? The problem is always the programs the you use for the conversion. I learned that the hard way. If your original source files are in sync, then the xvid's will be in-sync unless your converter messed up the conversion.
If you try these xvid's in several computers and they are out of sync in all of them, then the xvid's are bad. Theres no quick way to fix an out of sync xvid, you can get close but there will always be some sections out of sync.
Fairuse wizard lite is the only program that I have been using for the past 3 years that has never produced an audio/video sync problem.

Hi jonny.
I didn't make them, I downloaded them as XVIDs'
When I viewed them they were out of sync, I then tried converting them with Nero to DVD format and they play fine, no sync problems.
I'll take a look at the prog you mention for future ref.
BTW, does anyone know how to tell if the file you are downloading is in letterbox format?
I've downloaded an old movie but when I play it on a small screen like my portable dvd player it's muck, huge black lines top and bottom and a small strip in the middle to watch :-(

This is what I meant by comparing side by side the working and non working video.Look for the resolution.See what's different, why one plays and the other doesn't.
This would not give you much info regarding you audio sync problem( maybe tell you if the audio is VBR or CBR, if that's relevant...).
So your AVIs were out of sync when played on your PC, but then no sync problems after you converted them to DVD?
As for the letterboxing- some include a small sample in their upload.Some players will also play incomplete downloads.

All videos you download will be widescreen. Some push the widescreen to the extreme using non-standard resolutions. You can always use the free avidemux to remove the blackbars using the crop filter. Thats how I do it.
It looks like you have a codec problem, also I wouldn't rule out an audio card problem, especially if it's an onboard audio card.
