So, I'm tired of ImgBurn's messages about the disc backups I make with CloneDVD2 not having the layer break info. The reason I use ImgBurn to burn the resulting .iso's is that I like to verify the data is written correctly during the burn process, which CloneDVD2 doesn't do.

Do any of you guys know of a decent (meaning reliable, and performs write verification) burning app that groks AnyDVD's .dvd files? Please don't flame me about searching as I tried searching the forums, but the search engine keeps changing my .dvd search term to dvd, even if I use quotes....

Thanx....

Why isn't Clone keeping the LB info?

Probably AnyDVD or Clone DVD has a setting to remove/keep the layer brake.
Why make the ISO with Clone DVD and not ImgBurn?

When you use CloneDVD to create an .iso, it doesn't produce a metadata file with the layer break info like AnyDVD does. However, I haven't found anything other than Slysoft's CloneDrive that uses the .dvd metadata file.

AnyDVD keeps the layer break info if you ask it to make a .dvd file along with the .iso. The .dvd file contains data like this:

MediaType=DVD
LayerBreak=2046832
DRSUESS.iso

Which is obviously the media type, where the layer break is, and the name of the .iso associated with the .dvd file.

When you use CloneDVD2 to create a backup file (.iso), it doesn't produce a metadata file that includes the layer break info, just a .iso. Thus, ImgBurn produces the following error:

Optimal L1 Data Zone Start LBA: None Found! (VTS_01)

This image has not been mastered correctly for burning onto a double layer (OTP Track Path) Disc.

None of the cells meet the 'DVD-Video specification' critera for a potential layer break position.

Sooooo....Hurm. If simply making a bit-for-bit backup of a DL disc, I guess I could use ImgBurn. I would just lose the ability to remove certain 'features' of the disc, which I do with AnyDVD anyway, huh?

Doh!

Don't have or care for AnyDVD, so not familiar with its ripping functions. But if you find a better burner than ImgBurn, let us know.
Not sure what features you remove(cannot be too much, you're backing up on a DL after all), and I don't know exactly how CloneDVD2 meets your needs(never used it, always Nero Recode), but you can maybe use DVD Shrink instead of DVD Clone. DVD Shrink has an option to keep the layer brake and auto-burns with ImgBurn.

@Lazlong, please try this

1) rip dvd to HDD with anydvd ripper
2) use vob blanker
3) Imgburn build mode for dl iso ( note in layer break position, select no splip) http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=1777
4) Imgburn -> write mode to dl disc
5) don't forget to booktype/bitset disc to dvd-rom

Thanx for the suggestion. However, I think I will just switch to using ImgBurn to make .iso/.mds files in combination with AnyDVD.

If assembling my own DVD from .vob's I'll follow your procedure.
