Im having an issue while burning DVD's. When i first got my DVD burner(last christmas)i would burn dvd's in 3-5 minutes flat without any errors. Now when i burn it gets 8-15% it says "Burning Layer 1 Failed" Then it goes from 4 minutes burning time to 20 minutes. I've tried reinstalling my dvd drive and updating Nero but i still get the same issue. Anyone have a fix? Here is my txt file of my last burn.

Try updating your firmware and turning on your DMA.
If this should fail, try another brand of DL disc preferably Verbatim +R.
99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

Just noticed,
Your log shows successful burn (+R media with x4). Please post the log with the error for the next time.
Also, your log shows Nero has failed booktyping as DVD-ROM. Updating firmware must solve this problem. Check the log after updating your firmware and burning.
Good luck.

okay well i updated the firmware on my sony. Also i read other posts on how to turn DMA on and i did exactly what it says. It shows that my DMA is on but in a the nero.txt after im done burning it says that DMA:0ff. i have no clue why this happened. Also after doing all these steps i still get the same error but it still successfully burns the dvd just very slow. here are some images of the Device Manager showing my DMA

The last picture is what all the other IDE channels showed in the Advanced tab. The middle picture shows the DMA at Ultra DMA mode 5 which indicates DMA is on if im correct?
Any other idea's?

I?m not so familiar with this SATA interface. It seems you have 8 ports.
I believe second picture, which is showing both ?Ultra DMA Mode 5? as Current Transfer mode, is your HD?s.
Find the IDE Channel that shows ?PIO? as Current Transfer mode. That is the channel your ODD's are connected. (?Not Applicable? are the one still open - not connected.)
Uninstall that driver and restart PC. Then check again.
I hope this helps,
(Edit)
You might have to uninstall all primary and secondary IDE channels.

so if all of them say DMA if available that means i should uninstall all the secondary/primary IDE's then restart?

oh ok. But if the one IDE that shows as Ultra DMA 5 Mode and is a Primary IDE wouldn't that mean that my drives are Primary?

I think your motherboard has 8 SATA ports ? 4 Primary and 4 Secondary(?). As in your log, your HDd?s are using port2, and DMA?s are on. Your ODD?s are using port8, which shows DMA is off (Means using PIO mode). You should find one of IDE channels shows PIO as Current Transfer Mode which are for your ODD?s.

that is the thing i dont get =x. every single IDE (primary and secondary) shows "DMA if available". So there is no PIO mode for me to uninstall =x

I understand Transfer Mode might be set to ?DMA if available? for all channels. You need to look for PIO as Current Transfer Mode (just below the Transfer Mode.)

Sorry being late to reply. I couldn?t stay up. I think I've misunderstood your system.
Somehow I thought you all your HDD?s and ODD?s are SATA. Actually are all of those IDE (ATAPI)?
Could you tell me how it connected and configured (master/slave)?
I understand ODD may be slow, though are drives (2 HDD?s and 2 ODD?s) are working ?

If your system is like mine you have 2 IDE connections on the motherboard. One is primary and the other is secondary. Both can connect up to 2 drives. One as master and the other as slave. Each drive has little jumper pin to set Master, Slave or Cable Select.
I have 2 HDD and 2 ODD (one burner and one DVD-Rom). When I go to Device manager I only see one Primary and one secondary IDE channel. I was wondering that if you still see Primary and Secondary 4 each, you might have configuration problem that preventing to put your ODD back to DMA mode.
If your all drives are working. I do not know why it shows as ?Not Applicable? as Current Transfer Mode.
Can anyone, maybe who install the drive(?), check those jumpers are set right?
