I'm having a problem with my DVD drive even recognizing the movie Australia. The drive says that that the DVD isn't even in the drive. I tried the other drive I've got, and it's doesn't recognize it, either. I've tried ANYDVD 6.5.2.5.. Nothing recognizes this movie. I've DVD Decrypter..

Has anyone else had this problem? I've tried searching the entire forum for a solution, but haven't found anything on this problem..

Thanks!

Try giving it a real good cleaning. If that fails, exchange the disc.

99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

In addition to what dialysis suggested,
Is your drive working fine otherwise...is it having trouble recognizing other movies or disks?
How old is the drive?
Have you tried uninstalling it and then letting windows re-install?

I know the drive is fine, because this is the only movie I've trouble ripping the past 3 days, and I've been able to view and burn about 10 movies with absolutely no problem. The movie itself is the problem.. The DVD burner is a Plextor 708A, about 4 years old. Plextor actually tells you not to clean the lens with anything.. I've even downloaded the newest firmware for it today, with no luck. I am now having a problem with another movie, "The Lucky Ones"...

Thanks in advance for all of the advice..

Can you see the files using explorer?

Really?
In 4 years your lens can accumulate quite a bit of contaminates. A good cleaning can do some good. You might also want to consider that your 4 year old drive is starting to fail.

99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

You could also try (free) DVDFab HD Decrypter

That ODD was released back in the fall of 2003 so its about 6 year old tech,I would update to a new ODD. Pioneer would be my first choice

I've tried the new DVDFab HD..

Windows Explorer doesn't see the files on the disc. When I insert the disc, a disc icon pops up a few times and then disappears..

I actually never have any problems with the Plextor burner.. The problem has only occurred a handful of times..

Anything else I should try?

its most likely the copy protection on the DVD so there is nothing you can do other than buying a new drive. my Plextor PX-810SA read the movie fine

Explorer should be able to see the files. It can't copy them but should at least see that there are files on the disc. Did you try cleaning the laser lens?
Try the disc on another computer.

I haven't tried cleaning the lens because it's not recommended for this burner..

Can see the files in Internet Explorer.. The thing is, I can play this disc on my laptop.. It's wierd!

Just rip it on the laptop then copy the ripped movie folder over to the desktop pc...

Now this thread is starting to get confusing.
Can your drive read the files or not?

You may have misread the manual.

I apologize if I confused anyone.. The problem was my DVD burner. It evidently is getting old. I installed a new burner, and now I don't have any problems with the reading discs..

Thanks so much for all of the assistance.

Not to hijack but I'm having some issues with Australia as well ...

My drive reads the disk fine ... however, I've not been successfully at ripping the content ...

Tried using the newest version of DVDFab as well as DVDshrink to rip and can't seem to get further than about 45 to 50% before an error ...

Disk appears clean with no issues ...

Anyone else have problems with the movie Australia and if so, how did you remedy ... I tried searching but couldn't find any info ...

Thanks!

i would try a different DVD (it could be scratched/dirty even a fingerprint can cause problems) and or a different ODD to rip it

Many of us here can copy any movie (unless it's corrupt).

Hi - I was having the same problem backing up Australia. It would stop at 50%. I was using my internal dvd drive from a new dell. i took the disc out, gave it a couple wipes on my clean cotton shirt and put it in my external sony drive. worked just fine. i used dvd decrypter and then dvd shrink.

This movie backed up easily... if you use the correct updated software.

Agree with vballstud. This is a easy puppy - just rolls over and wants to play - DVD Shrink with AnyDVD running in background.
