Problems with DVC Coach

I use DVD Coach to convert avi files.
Most files of 90 minute length take about 2 hours + but one file Shortbus which was XVID Mpeg 4 wanted 8 hours+ to convert whereas a previous XVID Mpeg 4 file only 2 hours.
Anyone help me with this as the 8hr conversion forced me to run out of virtual memory so I didn't complete it
