I hope this helps somebody who may have experienced the same problem. I have two burners, a LG4020B multi that only burns at 2X and a LiteOn LDW-811S that I just love.
My LiteOn 811S has always read DVD movies anywhere between about 4 to 7 times speed when ripping a movie and no problem burning at the rated 8X DVD+R, etc. However the other day I noticed I could only read at 2X and write at 2x no matter what I did in my burning programs or where they were set. I looked and the DMA was set on the drives so I couldn't figure what could be wrong. I finally went into my cmos and set my IDE to PIO 4 and that did it. Before the IDE connectors were set to auto so I have no idea why the 811S just defaulted to 2X for everything. But, I do know that setting the IDE connectors to PIO 4 cured and fixed the problem. I hope this helps someone who may experience a slow burning and reading DVD burner.
