i have several dvd backups from using anydvd and clonedvd2. i purchased Iomega Screenplay Pro HD so i could view on my home theatre system (58" DLP Samsung TV & Pioneer Elite Reciever) Screen play is hooked directly thru Pioneer via HDMI. Using Clonedvd2, i ripped dvd to ISO file on HDD. Tranfered file to Screenplay and played. it played with perfect sound and picture until i stopped or FF or Rewind, etc. when i tried to play again, there was no sound, checked other movies on HDD of same type and all of them acted the same. I rebooted and it was the same cycle over and over again, no matter which one i picked, it worked and then it didn't. as long as i just played it was ok but anything else and i lose sound. i saw the words "unknown audio format" flash on the screen a couple of times. i converted one dvd to AVI and played it, it worked fine over and over but the quality was terrible and it took 6.5 hours to rip verses 15 minutes to rip to ISO. Am i doing something wrong? Is my Screenplay damaged? is there a preferred format that i should be using in lue of ISO? is ther another format that has as good as quality as the ISO file that will work better? I also like to skip tracks and i cannot on AVI. i dont care about the large amount of space the ISO takes. I want HD quality picture and sound. Also, the DVD's that i am backing up, might be slightly compressed, could this be the problem? Should i try a full DVD? Please help, new to this part of the game and the more i read the more i get confused.
I would contact product support to see if there are any known issues.
I took a look at the support web page for this product, and I see
there is a firmware update. Give them a call, find out what this
FW fixes, and discuss your issue.
i have contacted the tech. support already and they say it should work but i dont feel comfortable with their support because they didnt even know that their product supported VOB and ISO until i pointed it out to them on one of their website descriptions. the firmware i have is the latest. the only thing i havnt tried is an uncompressed file. i will try this and return the results but it will be a week or so.
im not sure what you are wanting me to do. there are four video_ts folders and i select the first one in order and the movie starts to play. everything is fine until i stop or paus or spmrthing and then it loses sound. I took the screenplay pro to work and tried on another tv and the sound freaked out and started screaching, it never played the sound right but the video was fine.
You need to find other users of this product to sort through these
kinds of quirks. Have you looked for a forum that may be
more targeted ?
It seems as if the handling of the video_ts folder is similar
to the way it plays the iso ? The ISO is basically the same as the
video_TS, that's why it rips in 15 minutes.
If you want to give avi another try, give AutoGK a go.
Some of the issues can be chalked up to media connection and TV media input formats. The audio issues might be because your receivers don't accept DTS or AC3 or whatever audio it's skipping on.
As for ripping to a disk image, the major problem is that for the most part, most mainstream multimedia servers only support the video files of DVD images, so your ISO will only play the VOB files, not the menus or anything. (If I'm wrong on this, feel free to correct me.)
As far as it not being able to rewind or fast forward, it might very well be a problem with your PC. How are you sending data to your Iomega? Wireless? Ethernet? USB? If your PC isn't very strong, it might not rewind/fast forward very easily or at all. If your PC and Iomega aren't connected well (ie through either Ethernet or USB), then you'll definitely have issues with something as large as an ISO file.
My suggestion would be to simply rip the main movie from your ISO and convert it from .vob to .avi (using AutoGK like davexnet suggested, or simply VDubMod). This will definitely result in a loss in quality, but if you convert using good enough encoder settings, you won't notice a difference between the original and the new.
