Has anyone had any difficulty backing up this movie?

DVDFab decrypter, ImgBurn,& Shrink all stop about 3 min into rip,
then freezes.

DVD Backup Express appeared to rip just the movie
but saved only the sound.

Any advice appreciated ...

This movie was released in 2002.
Try giving the disc and your laser lens a good cleaning.
It's possible that you have a bad disc.

99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

Thanks -

I did try backing it up in 3 different computers,

one of which had a new DVD burner, but all froze at 3 min.

The original disc does play ok in a DVD player.

Any more ideas appreciated ...

Most likely, your disc has some damages/bad-press as dialysis mentioned.
(As my understanding, stand alone DVD players accept/ignore certain level of read errors. So, playable with one stand-alone player does not mean there is no damage/error on the disc.) You may need some cleaning / repairing the disc, especially if scratches are visible.

Though if your disc is old release, DVD Decrypter may be able to rip your disc. After installation, Tools>Setting>options, increase Read Error Retries or check ?Ignore Read Errors? under I/O tab. (I do not know other ripping software that a user can set this.)

(edit: I have no idea why "DVD decrypter" links to AnyDVD in this message...)

Just because a movie will play does not mean it will rip.
