Help connecting to wifi with DSi

Folks, don't know much about the DS but wanted to help my son.
He's having trouble connecting to the wifi in our house. It recognizes it but has trouble maintaining a connection.
Why is this so difficult for such an amazing piece of technology? My Mac and Thinkpad have no trouble connecting to wifi without any trouble.
I also apologize if this has been covered before. I didn't see any search feature on this forum.

maybe this will help. when i got my dsi it was also giving me problems connecting so what i did was go under advanced connections instead of the 3 that are available, then you will be able to scan and enter your key and it should work. let me know if it works
