I've been backing up my collection of old movies, mostly layer5 using DVDdecrypter to make and ISO etc with no problem, however when I backup a layer 9 disk I have the following problem...

I use DVDdecrypter to rip the files to my HDD, then use DVD2One to compress everything.

Then I use REcord Now Max to burn the VIDEO_TS and newly added AUDIO_TS folders to a blank DVR-r disk.

The finished product then wont play in either my PC DVD player or my stand alone player, but the files will read as data on my PC?

The best I've got so far is opening and closing the stand alone tray a number of times until the disk works.

I'm using Ritek GO4 media which works fine from burned ISO's?

Any ideas,
Many Thanks,
NNOP.

I use Record Now DX to backup all my DVD's (layer5 and 9) and plays on EVERY SINGLE ONE of my DVD players (each one a different brand). The only problems I have is the skipping/pausing of the backups, but I've heard that this is a media problem.

I use DVD Shrink v.2.3 and then Record Now with no problems. I have also used DVD Decryptor, DVD Shrink, then Record Now and still no problems. ALL my backups play on EVERY regular (stand alone) DVD players.

I noticed that you have an "AUDIO_TS folder". I do not have that. Maybe that's what causing it?? I just have the VIDEO_TS folder.

By the way I also use DVD-R disks. In case you were wondering.

Thanks for your reply..

The AUDIO_TS folder is required to make the backup compatable with some older players. I know this isnt causing a problem as I've done many backups in the past without any errors.

I'm thinking my system needs a reload as its been running the current install of Win2K for over a year and with the MS updates and other programs I can't garanty Record Now Max hasnt been affected by something else.

NNOP,

Have a look at my guide at http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/recordnowmax.htm

It sounds like you are not burning dvd video compliant files....

Have a look at the guide, make sure you have 'recognise video/audio folders etc ticked in the options window (explained in the guide).....

If the above is not ticked then Recordnow will only produce data formatted file structure and not dvd video.........

Also you may need to make sure your burning engine is upto date, goto http://www.orlogix.com/support_download.php?type=updates&pn=rndx for the latest engine update.....

Btw:
You will find that alot of commercial dvd's do not have the AUDIO_TS folder on them - I never include it as contrary to belief, personally I do not think it does make it more compatible (my opinion)

Call back and let us know how you get on............

You could also try burnatonce (free) for your final burn (-R only). It's a very handy program.

I checked all of the setting as per your guide and they match exactly!

Its really odd. I can burn ISO's all day long but I can't burn VIDEO_TS folders. Therefore I know the burner is ok etc so it must be a software issue. I've reinstalled record now but its still the same!

help..

NNOP....

Strange.......what program are you using to produce the VIDEO_TS folder?

What files are contained within this VIDEO_TS folder?

What burner are you using?

You are not putting the ISO into the VIDEO_TS folder and trying to burn it that way are you.........that wont work.....

List your complete process from start to finish, as we need as much info as you can provide regarding your process.....

You maybe missing a step (no offense intended).....

Right I think I've found the problem :)

I had a compressed (DVD2One) folder of a film I wrote using Record Now (which didnt work)

I installed Nero and updated it to one of the later version 5's and burned the same VIDEO_TS folder that failed with Record Now.

It worked fine! I still had my reservations about Nero producing a good backup so I tried the DVD on 4 different players (Scan 2000, 504 Cyberhome, Sony and LG) all worked correctly.

So. It looks like my version of Record Now is messed up in some way. I've tried reinstalling it and updating it etc but its still producing back backups.

Think a complete system reload is the only way to sort the problem for good.

Thanks to baabaa for the info and help, very much appreciated and everyone else for their replies.

I'll do a few more different films to see if Nero is consistant and report back later.

Cheers :)

The it sad to hear that you have had to turn to the dark side (Use Nero I mean......lol).......

Still, a number of members have had issues with Recordnow DX and also have had to turn to Nero to resolve them..........

What version of DX have you got?
Also is Veritas OR Sonic? - sounds like Sonic to me....

Still nice to see you have managed a result....

If you could let me know what version it is, I am compiling some info regarding Recordnow DX and users issues.......

Have a good one.................

Hey BaaBaa, if your trying to gather some info regarding RecordNow DX, well I'm willing to help (since in return I'll hope it will help me).

OK. I have RecordNow DX which came with my SONY VAIO. It is version 4.11 made by Veritas Software.

Overall it's a good software, I haven't really had any MAJOR problems.

The only problems that I've had is that I rarely get the occarion when RN won't burn a song from my MP3 files. I won't get an error messege or anything, but when I play my CD on ANY CD player, the "bad" song won't play, but it will take up the space. For example, if I'm trying to burn a song that's 5 minutes long (and doesn't burn correctly), when I play the song in a CD player, the song will play for 5 mimutes, but NO sound will play. I don't know if any other burning software has this problem or not, but I have encountered it with RN DX.

Also, it seems that RecordNow DX has a problem with using any other brand (media) except for SONY when recording DVD'S ONLY. I've tried Memorex and another (cheap) brand and the finished DVD had some skipping/freezing/pixelation. I've used SONY once and the movie came out GREAT, but I've only used it ONCE. Memorex I've used about 10 times, and the other cheap brand (it was a store brand) I've used it about 7 times.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ojammer

Cheers for that....

I will be starting a thread in the safety valve regarding issues.
I am in touch with software support quite regularly and (due to the links off my guide at chrismccann.co.uk)
Trying to compile common issues and give them the feedback for future improvements.

You have an old version, you'd be better going upto 4.5 and having the latest pxengine, you maybe able to get a free upgrade at http://www.orlogix.com
This should sort out those issues.

Your issue regarding mp3, are you sure you are creating them at 128kbs or higher, as any lower then you will get no sound...

Try GO4 Riteks.....I use them and they are sweet.
