One of the more common questions new users of HandBrake ask is "What settings should I use?" This is the most difficult one to answer since it is such a subjective question. What looks "best" to one person in a certain situation will be different from what someone else thinks looks "best" in a different situation.

So this is the thread to post your favorite settings, and WHY those settings look best to you. New users can then browse for people that have a similar "why" and try out their settings.

MY SETTINGS-
WHY: Convert DVD Collection to Digital Media Server

PRIORITIES: Quality, then file size

SETTINGS:
File format: AVI
VIDEO:
Codec: AVC/H.264 Video
Encoder: x264 (h.264 Main)
Constant Quality: 65%
2-pass encoding: OFF (time purposes)
AUDIO:
Audio Bitrate: 192 Kbps
Subtitles Language: English (As Needed for Foreign Films)
Mixdown: Dolby Pro Logic (if applicable)
Bitrate- 128 for reg movies, 160-190 for intense scenes with complex audio
Codec: MP3

Settings are working for me. Give me good quality. But I would like more tips and am just curious. So please share YOUR settings.

Picture Settings:
Keep Aspect Ratio: On (Unless Needs Correction)
Crop: Automatic (Unless Needs Correction)

Goal: Good Quality for playback on PC and able to sync with iPod.

My Current Settings for Handbrake (windows) for converting anime:

Crop: Usually Automatic, but I use custom when necessary
Framerate: Same as source
2 Pass Encoding: checked
Target Size: 192mb, due to VFR being enabled this allows the file size to be around the 175mb range

Audio Codec: AAC
Mixdown: Dolby Pro Logic II
Sample Rate: 48
Audio Bitrate: 128kbps

Chapters: Disabled

Reference Frames: 6
Mixed References: Checked
B-frames: 0

No Fast P-Skip: Checked

Anything else I didn't mention is either on default or not checked
