hi all i have been trying to do some reading about this (getting dvd to avi or other formats)and came across a program that seems to be very much spoken highly of here at afterdawn ....
AutoGK - version ??? i cannot seem to be able to find any mention at all of ....
ultra dvd to divx converter (i can have access to version 3.0.1228, if this is the prefered choice. or if theres a better version please let me know)
what ive been trying to do is a side by side comparison to see wich is better.
OR even better - wanted to hear from all you guys & gals that have been doing this already for a while and getting really good results.
thanks all.
What are you going to use to play the resulting video? I would use a program that can convert using H.264, like HandBrake or FairUse Wizard. Otherwise, Autogk(or the above mentioned) can encode to Divx and do the job you want.

.....
i would like to be able to continue to play them on a dvd player - but fit more than one on the dvd.....
also would love to be able to transfer them to MP3s and ipods.

... now the last thing i wanna do is piss you off but do you know of a good thread or other where i can learn what that is??
i mean if its coming from you and some other guys with the status and experience you guys have - that means i gotta look into it.
hey thanks again!
If you play them on your DivxDVD player(and you should definitely be able to fit more than a single movie on one disc), then forget H.264, they don't support it yet. You have to stick with Divx/Xvid.
For your iPod, you will be able to use H.264, just have to be sure you convert withing specs( bitrate/resolution)
H.264/X.264 is a codec that can be used to achieve higher compression and yet retain good quality.
