I am setting up my new computer to backup some of my DVD movies. On my old XP computer I used AnyDVD with DVDShrink and Nero, and found that combination very easy to work with.
I am pretty sure AnyDVD has no problem with Vista, but I am wondering if DVDShrink will work with Vista. If not, what would you suggest for easy backup (as few steps as possible). I have two DVD drives, I want to just put the original and the blank in, set up the backup, and come back and have it done.
I've installed DVDShrink and AnyDVD, and it does the disk analysis just fine, and when I click Re-Author and select the main movie file I can play it. But when I try to run the Backup it gives the message "encountered an error....Copy Protection Error....the sector is encrypted".
It seems like maybe AnyDVD is not doing its job, but I can't really tell.
Try setting up Ripit4me (Need DVD Decrypter and Shrink Installed First) to use with ANYDVD. This is the Combo I Use most often. If that doesn't work I use DVDFAB Platinum, FIXVTS, Shrink and always Imgburn.
Sounds like this is one where you do need to use the AnyDVD ripper and work from the files on your HDD... If the AnyDVD status window mentions "structural protection", you always need to rip to files if you're using DVD Shrink (according to the folks at the Slysoft forums)...
Even though it removes the protections, there are still some things that Shrink can't handle if you're only using AnyDVD in the background.
I'm running Vista Ultimate and like you, my preference is AnyDVD, then DVD Shrink (although I use ImgBurn, not Nero).. and, just as any FYI.. DVD Shrink seems to analyze and encode much faster using the ripped files than it does directly from the original disc.. So even if AnyDVD doesn't find structural protection, might still be worth it to use it to rip first.
