I think most people overestimate the importance of dual layer discs. With 99% of the movies I don't want any of the extra's anyway. I will probably continue to burn movies like I have been. I will also continue to use SHRINK to remove other useless stuff like menu's and FBI warnings.. If the movie is 'shrunk' to 'no less' than 80% of the original, the quality remains very good and the resulting copy is eminently watchable. Maybe I'll put 2 movies on ONE disc...
The French VSO-Software has officially announced the next version of their top selling CD/DVD
recording software. The version 3 is loaded with features as the powerful 1:1 backup solution
BlindWrite has now been integrated to the package. Visually just about everything is new and under
the hood there are major improvements too, like the DVD-9 recording.
The release date is set to be before the end of March. The pricetag is EUR/USD 39.90 and the
update is free for everyone who has purchased the product within a year from the release date. More
information and new screenshots available at VSO-Software
CopyToDVD uses optical media to manage data, audio and video projects for personal backups.
Whilst CopyToDVD provides a limited number of features in comparison to other established products
on the market, it effectively performs the key tasks required by users today. VSO-Software has always
encouraged and valued feedback from their customers; the company ethos being to provide efficient
user friendly ways to perform the most common burning tasks. The new improved version is therefore
much clearer and easier to use, avoiding the need to switch between different products provided by
the company. It is now easier to access all of the company's software from within one interface. A
lighter version of BlindWrite, the popular pilot product from VSO-Software, is integrated into the new
version. CopyToDVD brings together a number of specialised tools such as a backup scheduler, a
media player and a new starter menu. This latest module is v! ersatile as it introduces a starting point
from which a large number of possibilities are available. Users can decide which external applications
to use for specific tasks such as personal DVD movie backup. This new "recording hub" simplifies
burning for beginners as well as advanced users.
Cool, thanks for the replies, i'm with you 100% siber, i get rid of all the credits menus and crap on every movie, i hate menus and splash screens on dvds, it's a pet hate of mine.
So i don't want to do a straight copy ever, i don't care if the disk is fucking 10 gig, i only want the movie, thus the question about shrink.
I suppose you would still be able to use shrink, just be able to put a lot more movies on a disc with less compression, bring it on i say.
I guess my main question should have been will i still be able to use recordnow dx 4.6 (i love this program) but obviously not, so i guess they'll release a new version to buy.
Hmm, you bring up a good point RWG, best to wait until all the crap s/ware is out there and see which one comes out on top, this is a chance i think for the lagging s/ware houses to pick up thier act, round two, dual layer.
LOL i expected Nero to be there, not a big fan of their dvd copying, cd is fine, but they've fallen behind. We'll see, cheers again.
Talking about more than 1 movie per DVD, I was in Belgium, France and the Netherlands last month and noticed DVD's for sale with 4 movies on them...I'm not sure what format is used. I don't think it is Divx as there are few Divx players available yet. Anybody know?
Im with you on this mate, there seems to be very few movies that will need to be "backed up" on a dual layer disk. The quality of backup using movie only if very high on a standard 4.7Gb disk. With luck it will really drive the prices of standard DVD-r disks to the floor !!.
One thing I can see though is manually having to put in the "layer break" position. Sounds a nightmare to me, having to avoid mid sentence breaks.
