well i have the iso of Namco X Capcom and MvC2 and i both burned them to Phillips DVD-R's at 2x speed on Imageburn and they both get the same problem "Not a valid PS2 Disc"

Do have a FAT PS2 or Slim? Use a fliptop, slidetool or magickeys
What version?

This all helps when asking questions.

Try burning them faster 4x-6x, or try a different brand of media.

I had the same problem. I was using the proper CD and it worked once but never again.

It turned out I wasn't locking it properly. If you don't move it ALL THE WAY OVER TO THE LEFT back in position then the game simply won't work. Try that if you're sure it's not the burning or the game that's the problem.
