I recently bought a 100 spindle of Memorex DVD-R's. Up till now I've been using DVD-RW with no problems.

I cannot read anything NERO 6 writes--Not Video, Audio, Data, Backup...NADA. I've been seeing some discussion in other forums about a problem with Nero 6 NOT finalizing DVD-R rips. Any one got more information on this?

I'm using a Pioneer 105 --Firmware 1.33b--and like I said, I don't have any problems with DVD-RW and these are the first DVD-R I've tried.......

There is a setting in Nero - Disc-at-once & Track-at-once. But if you are using Nero to burn DVD-Video that option to not finalize a DVD is unavailable to change. Finalize is selected and grayed out. Take a close look at theb Burn window.

Actually Nero defaults to finalizing all DVD burns except multisession.

After some investigation I've determined that the problem is not specific to Nero. ULEAD, Pinnacle, Gennie Backup, Blindwrite, CloneDVD....--they all leave me with unreadable burns--no matter if I'm bruning images, copying readable DVD-RW's, creating DATA backups..whatever. I believe there's a problem with this Memorex Media. I'm sending the entire spindle back to Amazon. $100 Bucks for 100 DVD-r's SEEMED like a good deal last week.

Hi Street,

Another thing to try is to leave a bit more room on the outer edge for the lead out.

If you are using Shrink, you can change the default size from 4464 MB to something like 4364 MB.

Sometimes the edge of the disc won't burn properly and you get lead out problems.

Can you post your Nero burn log? It should have some error indicators that are helpful in figuring out what is actually occurring.

I have burned a lot of Memorex with a variety of burners, the only one that has not liked it is my A-07. I switched to Ritek G-04 -R media and have had great success with it.
Have you tried any other media?

Cheers,
Frank

Well I probably won't be making too many more frisbees since I'm sending this spindle back. I'm planning to fire up my XP partition and give it one more shot--I've been running in Win2000 till now. The fact that I burn a lot of DVD-RW's (mostly Memorex) with no problems at all tends to make me suspect mad media.

BTW:
The last DVD-R I tried had a total or 512MG of str8-up Dos complient data on it. I just thought I'd see if that would work--NO joy.

Here, btw, is a DVDInfoPro Prinout of one of my DVD-R Burns:

Notice the different disc manufacturer. There are two versions of Memorex media. It seems that you may have the version that does not work very well.

1. You were successful with R/W media.
2. Changing to a different media/media format caused failed burns.
3. Memorex -R media ProdiscSO-3 works OK for me.
4. Memorex -R media CMC MAG.AF1 isn't working OK for you.

I did read in this forum about problems with certain types of Memorex media.

Before you make too many changes try some different media. You don't want to introduce too many variables into the equation. If you do make changes, verify by burning another R/W. You know it worked before.

BTW, the log I posted was from a disc that was burned using Nero 6 and my Pioneer A-07 at 8X.

If you think the infopro log is a mess, try the one that Nero will make for you. It can be 6 or more pages. Lots of info if you have the patience to figure it out though.

Cheers,
Frank

Yeah more and more I'm coming to the conclusion that this Media is known to be crap. J&R had this "Memorex" it on sale $100/100CD's. When they ran out of that stock they went back to their usual price of $150 for the same Memorex brand--but I'm betting from a different manufacturer.

I bought mine from Amazon but it looks like another dump job of the same bad merchandise.

I already have my Amazon RMA and UPS return Barcode printed out to send this back from whence it came.
