Quote: the files that work and that dont are the same type, avi.
AVI covers a lot of ground. Get either GSpot or MediaInfo and compare the details of those that work vs those that don't.

by changing the video options so that rather than high quality, which it used to ask me if i wanted it to fit to the size of disk by lowering the quality and would then work, or even auto which also causes the error, it is now fine on standard when it doesn't have to do any extra work.
i find it odd that all of a sudden it doesn't want to lower the quality for me and errors when it has to.
i read somewhere that there was a file/files that i could maybe delete for the nesize or something similar that might help but i didn't want to mess with anything without more expert knowledge on the matter

Which version of Nero are you using, and which version of Nero Express are you using, updating to a more recent version may help solve your problem.
www.filehippo.com has older versions of Nero 6,7,and 8 available for downloading.

7.0.8.2, many problems, pretty much of a glorified BETA.

Go to version 7.10.1.0, I use this one. Very stable. Use the Nero Clean tool to remove traces of the bad Nero, then reinstall.

Your serial number should start witn 1C82. Should work unless you are in a different country than the USA.

My understanding is that this program has a couple of different varieties, one called Ultra, for the States I believe, and the other called Nero Premium, for other parts of the world, could be wrong though.

Yes, the very same, I was hoping one of the Nero gurus would tell us if the different flavors Ultra/premium are identical except for the name...
