Hi all, I am currently converting my DVD collection to mp4 files for use on an external drive connected to my Xbox 360. I am using the following process: Re-author DVD using DVD Shrink 3.2; Convert to mkv (h.264) using Divx Converter 7; extract audio + video using MKVExtractGUI; add them to an mp4 container using Yamb. My problem is that some DVD's don't contain a stereo audio stream as required by the Xbox 360 when using h.264. I will thus have to convert the audio stream from 5.1 to stereo. I've tried extracting the audio stream using MeGUI, since it can convert from 5.1 to stereo. The problem is that the audio and video streams aren't synced when I've added them into the mp4 container. Do I have to determine the audio bitrate and use that in MeGUI? If so, what can I use to determine the mkv audio bitrate?
Thanks everyone!

Thanks MysticE. I've tried Xvid4PSP, but the best quality I've been able to get is with my listed process. My only hiccup is the stereo audio with H.264

So does this mean you have a working mkv at this point, but the container and audio are the wrong type?

Open this MKV in Xvid4PSP, choose the MP4 XBOX preset. Set 'Video' to Copy, then choose the appropriate audio and bitrate you want and save it.

Why didn't you just let MeGUI do the whole thing?..AFAIC you're using too many steps..I have to agree with MysticE, Xvid4PSP is much easier to use with it's MP4/Xbox profile...I'm not too sure about the quality you mention, since both methods involve using the same h.264 codec, and I find the Xvid4PSP app gives excellent results(for me of course)...

Thanks k00ka. I've been able to get perfect DVD quality at 2GB with Converter Pro. I may have had the wrong settings with XviD4PSP. Could you please let me know what settings you use with it? (and if there are any special settings for DVDs with only 5.1, or is that auto included in the settings on the Xbox/MP4 profile?) Do you get perfect DVD quality? I'm looking for perfect quality at 2GB max 3GB.
Thanks again!

Mostly I use the profile presets, and If I want a certain size or are aiming for quality then I go into Video Encoding Settings and make my adjustments..As far as so-called "perfect DVD quality", remember that you are re-encoding, so you will lose some quality in the process.Best to try a small clip with different settings (e.g. 2-pass bitrate size, or constant quality,etc..Only you can see what best suits your needs(quality wise)..

Hi K00ka,
I'm not sure with which settings I used Xvid4PSP before, but the Xbox MP4 profile does look excellent at small file size. Thanks for simplifying my process at no quality cost, appreciate it..
